The first one is incredibly looking, plays well and has some amazing detail. It's so good I'm still amazed it's not made by the japanese.
Some time ago I realized that holy hell, GOW2 is being released soon and I still haven't completed the first one. So I've been playing it like mad but the game just won't end! It just keeps on going! I always think I'm near the end, but I just get sidetracked in the quest. Now I'm back at the Temple of the Oracle, ready to take on Ares, but I bet that as soon as I see Ares again the gods send me to some whole new world to collect some stupid items and AAARGH

Before Pope John Paul died he decreed that Aliens were also GOD's creatures and we should treat them with respect.

Yeah I'm looking forward to it. I just played through the first one last week. I'm on the final bout with Aries, but right now I'm too lazy to finish it. It's a real drag when you have an amazing game like GoW and they throw some totally uninspiring final boss battle at you. I don't understand that.
Anyway, my only complaint with the entire game is the last fight with Aries. I will get around to finishing it before I play GoW2 though.

I'm definitely looking forward to playing it, but it (along with Twilight Princess) will have to wait... I have a policy of not buying games that will be easily available forever on release if possible.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.
Yeah, that's the benefit of today's crazy game market. Popular titles will always be in stock. Unfortunately, that also means niche titles like shmups disappear off the shelves because they don't sell good enough.it290 wrote:I'm definitely looking forward to playing it, but it (along with Twilight Princess) will have to wait... Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!

The second needs to be at least twice as long, please.

I didn't have a problem with GOW's length, but I do think a few parts were redundant/not particularly well crafted. I'd rather have a shorter game that is entirely excellent, instead of those sections where the quality dropped.

i agree totally. i just beat it last night and found the last fight to be pretty annoying. Aries is always standing between Kratos and the screen! it took me about 6 tries to beat him, when i finally figured out how, it was pretty easy.ktownhero wrote:Yeah I'm looking forward to it. in all, i thought it was a great game, the combat got a little repetitive after a while tho. more puzzles and bosses in GOW2 please!

3 or 4 bosses in a game is enough for me. Although I found the bosses in GOW to be very entertaining.
I have a feeling from looking at the videos on the net that GOW2 will be more combat orientated.
Only problem with GOW1 for me was the recycling of enemies, and on occasion the amount of times they respawned.
Oh, and the silly wall climbing areas.. Because lets face it, they were not that good.
Not a complaint, but it seems a cheap way to create a game by putting a set camera angle on a scene and putting power ups where you initially won't see them. Like behind a door you just opened or under the stairs for example

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Aries wasn't that bad, it was the fight beforehand with your million selves that pissed me off no end.mirkvid wrote:i agree totally. i just beat it last night and found the last fight to be pretty annoying. So what's everyone think of this so far?
Seems to me they scaled the difficulty way down, I'm starting out on easy mode, but still it's a cake walk. Graphics are still top notch and impressive.......gameplay is much more linear this time around. Very close to beating it, and though they say there are "more bosses" this time, boss fights feel like normal enemies, not epic like in the first game.

Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.

Completely agree; I grew tired of the puzzles constantly popping up that would detract from the great action the game had. A better game like Ninja Gaiden didn't do that (as much). The new GoW sounds like an improvement over the first, though, as I've heard there are less time consuming puzzles and more bosses and continuous action. I only spent $20 on the first, so it was money well spent, but the second is looking like a solid full price pickup.I thought the first God of War was a tad too long if you ask me. There are a couple of parts in Athens that could have been cut.
I'd like to pick up the second one pretty soon, but my money's going to Virtua Tennis 3 next week first and foremost.
