I probably missed a few but those are some really good titles. I'm not sure if I should pick them up because they might've changed something from the japanese versions.

This is almost.. scary. I found Raiden III, 1945, Psyvariar Complete Edition, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, and King of Fighers Neowave out on PAL.

usually ntsc --> pal changes are not worth picking up (especially not in shmups). though with recent releases they seem to include a 60hz mode but more often than not (especially in the past) they converted it to 50hz (without optimization), slowing the game down and squashing the screen. regarding gameplay changes, well shmups are known to be made easier for the western market. though from what i gather recent pal releases of shmups seem to have made it pretty much unscathed (save for some wonky translations).Arznei wrote:I'm not sure if I should pick them up because they might've changed something from the japanese versions.
so if you have their original japanese counterpart there is most likely no added value for you to pick up the pal version in addition to the jap one. other than supporting the publishers who decided to bring it over to pal territories, of course. which is a noble cause it and of itself.

So you can buy PONG and play it on your TV at home now? I wonder what the future holds, maybe even a device that lets you watch movies of your choice on your TV... that would be so awesome.
In other news, I think it's about time the US got out of Vietnam. What the heck were they doing there in the first place?

Only the Strikers 1945 port is a bit shite, the rest you mentioned are great, especially Battle Coliseum which has shorter load times than the Jp version. There's been a few threads on recent PAL releases but I can't be bothered to search for them at the moment.Arznei wrote:This is almost.. scary. It'd be great if someone could tell me which PAL shmups/fighters are worth picking up (they're cheaper, and plus, I live in aus.. which is a PAL region) and which aren't. There really isn't any telling unless I try them out for myself (there's no try-it-before-you-buy-it service "down under") so I guess I have to ask here.theevilfunkster wrote:Only the Strikers 1945 port is a bit shite, the rest you mentioned are great, especially Battle Coliseum which has shorter load times than the Jp version. Also I guess I'm kinda late. They all just popped up recently though.

PAL versions are cheap, it's true. I got Neowave for 10 euros. PAL version is not nerfed or anything, but only get it if you can't wait for KOF XI. It should come out soon (but ignition games are *always* delayed. A lot.)Arznei wrote: It'd be great if someone could tell me which PAL shmups/fighters are worth picking up (they're cheaper, and plus, I live in aus.. which is a PAL region) and which aren't. Oh, and get PAL Homura. It's great.

The Gunbird collection is decent enough. It has 60hz and TATE, but lacks memory card support. Also on GB2, there is a moment of loading in-game before the boss' speech at the end of every stage. I never found it to disturb my gameplay. GB1 doesn't have this problem.sven666 wrote:strikers and gunbird collections are the only ones to stay away from, theyre shite.
