Override PC Engine
I've barely played this one and just picked it up again. Overall it seems like the typical semi-decent PCE hori-vert with bland graphics, in the vein of Cybercore, but without the cool bugs. Still, I noticed a very cool feature that I can't recall seeing in any other game. The powerup for the game's secondary weapon, released upon shooting the appropriate enemy, cycles through several colors as it slowly drifts downscreen. Once you've snagged a green one, for example, the next powerup will cycle its colors in such a way that green is the final color before the powerup drifts off the bottom of the screen. In this way, it is possible to collect successive powerups of the same color, increasing your firepower while hanging back at the bottom of the screen. I hate how some shooters make you chase a powerup all over the place, often into the more dangerous upper portion of the screen.
