I am with GP on this one.
Exelica > Karous > Radirgy
Mind you Karous is only minimally better than Radirgy, in that it looks a little bit nicer and the level-up/scoring system feels more natural.
Having said all that I've got exactly 36 shooting games on my shelf that I need to 1CC, and even the worst one I find more enjoyable than Exelica.

Played it this evening, quite a nice game. I love the music on level 1. Getting the rotation going takes some getting used to but it's great fun with the DC stick.

Hope it's working for you. Could really use it now that the PS->DC converter broke. Got another in the mail apparently, but still.rtw wrote:Getting the rotation going takes some getting used to but it's great fun with the DC stick.

Ok... after putting in about 3 hours of game time last night, I found two things that bother me about the game:
1.) When you fire, there's this small blue flashing ball toward the front of your character. Right behind it is the green hexagonal hitbox marker. The problem is that the flashing from the shot bubble has a tendancy to draw my attention, so I start using it as the hitbox... which is bad.
2.) The anchor shot throw feels awkward. I would have prefered if holding left made you spin counter-clockwise and holding right made you spin clockwise. The system as it stands has the directions based around how far through rotation you are.

It does seem like some type of analogue emulation. It will come to you eventually, but yeah, it takes some time to get used to. I also think the two characters have different throws. Exelica being much easier to throw, but sucking on every other front (slow...spread shot hard to control).
I've got 50 mil right at the start of stage 4, then ate shit. Until I get my stick, I will get nowhere. My wrist & palm of my hand hurt so fucking bad. No sex for me tonight.

Well, when I was just screwing around, I could easily get the sucker spinning really fast doing 360s on the joystick... however, when trying to repeat this during serious play... I found it a real pain.GaijinPunch wrote:It does seem like some type of analogue emulation. It will come to you eventually, but yeah, it takes some time to get used to. I managed to get to level 4 as well (got about halfway through the shooting blocks portion, just before the boss) and broke 64 million.
I'm really not liking the VBAS that much. If I screw up in a level, I can't practice the tougher boss patterns and so far, I've only been able to activate one battle against FainTear (in stage 1).
All that being said, I really love the stage 3 music and appreciate the No Miss when running into enemies (only bullets can hurt you.. running into an enemy causes you to violently bounce off them, but you sustain no damage).

After the rotation has been initialted you don't have to rotate the stick anymore. It seems like it goes to automatic.GaijinPunch wrote:It does seem like some type of analogue emulation. It will come to you eventually, but yeah, it takes some time to get used to.

rtw is right, but to get it to go faster, you have to move the joystick the other way. It could be my brain, but Exelica is easier to swing w/ than Cruel Tear. Of course, swinging that shit w/ bullets all around you and not getting hit is a trick.

Seems Trigger Heart made some pretty good sales too.
Enterbrain (Famitsu) published approx. sales figures of the games released on the 22th of Februari:
1. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd (inkl. Bundle) (PSP, Capcom): über 500.000 St.
2. Fire Emblem: Akatsuki no Megami (Wii, Nintendo): ca. 50.000 St.
3. Naruto Shippuuden: Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX WII (Wii, Takara Tomy): ca. 20.000 St.
4. Sim City DS (NDS, EA): ca. 20.000 St.
5. Trigger Heart Exelica (DC, Warashi): ca. 10.000 St.
6. Riot Act [Crackdown] (Xbox 360, Microsoft): ca. 10.000 St.
7. Metal Slug Complete (PSP, SNK Playmore): unter 10.000 St.
I´d say that´s not bad for a niche genre on a suposedly "dead" console.
I´ll bet Warashi made quite a lot more money from the DC release than from the arcade version. Guess they´re pretty happy now.

Pro tip: Map the anchor to the L-Trigger, that way you don't have to push two buttons simultaneously and you can control the anchor and captured enemies MUCH better.
Thank me later
PS. If you tap the shot-button instead of continuously pressing it you automatically suck in those yellow bonus-thingies.

I didn't realize how much I missed playing this...
Throwing stuff is fun, but overdoing it isn't the best route to the high score. Watch your multiplier when throwing popcorn at groups of other popcorn, especially if there aren't many bullets to cancel with your toss.
V.B.A.S. and encountering Faintear are tied to your medal collection.
Arrange mode is damn fun, but hits some inconsistent slowdown in a few unfortunate spots. I'm looking forward to the high score and strategy threads on this one!
Edit - Are all of the stages unlocked in the practice mode already? I've only made it to Lv. 4 in Arcade, but I can play Lv. 5 in Training...

But that's not what you want to do. The longer you wait, as they fall to the bottom, they become bigger, and eventually give you a larger multiplier. Watch the replay at super-play, or even the replays at Sega's official website. The idea is to hold the shot down as long as possible.Ceph wrote:PS. Oh, I see, thanks for clearing that up. Anyway, the L-trigger idea works very nicely, because you can keep the trigger pressed while moving the enemy you are holding into position like a shield.GaijinPunch wrote:But that's not what you want to do. Something strange happened to me just now: I fought the first boss which this time seemed to have more formations than usual. After it was finally defeated, another boss appeared, that small red clad guy from the intro and I had to fight him. I have no idea what triggered this event. Maybe it has something to do with not using any bombs or losing any lives during the entire level until after the first boss?
EDIT: I just used a bomb during the boss fight and the red guy still appeared. Maybe it has to with having more than 10,000,000 points after the first boss. The first time I had around 13 Million, the second time 15.

I think it's based on your item count at the end of the first bossCeph wrote:Something strange happened to me just now: I fought the first boss which this time seemed to have more formations than usual.
