EDIT: Here is a glimpse of an official case, as to whether it's LE or not, I'm not sure.

And w/ the looks of games like Otomedius and Muchi Muchi Pork, its going to continue to be a great year for shmups.Kiken wrote:March.Sundance wrote:I saw that too...hehe. Should see mine soon...werd! Got mine in today. I splurged on the LE, like a sucker. The poster is cool if you're into posters that will guarantee you never get laid. As for the booklet (what I thought might make the LE worth it), it's pretty weak. It fits inside the LE case (convenient, I suppose) but is somewhat thin.
The soundtrack, I will most likely never listen to, much less like. I hate game music.

Especially the Mushihime-sama soundtrack (minus stage 4).Arvandor wrote:Even Mushihime-sama's soundtrack?GaijinPunch wrote:I hate game music.
Did you read through the thread. Quite a few people here played it in the arcade. Graphics are far less than stellar, and game play not too traditional w/ that whole grappling thing. Gave me an excuse to buy a new release... something I've not done since summer.First impressions anyone?

Huh, to each their own I suppose ^_^ I love game music. Especially things like Mushihime-sama and Disgaea (for some reason they have a similar sound to me, I dunno). Hopefully I'll enjoy the THE soundtrack =D
I really like the Dreamcast d-pad for most shooters. Is it something in the way you toss enemies that makes the d-pad crappy for THE, or is it personal preference? I might have to look into a PS -> DC adapter myself. Actually, I probably should just for Garou:MotW =P But I suck BADLY at shooters with my HRAP. Too much dead space in the center, I can't precision twitch very well T_T

After playing Last Hope for so long this game was a breath of fresh air. May not be the holy grail but I'm having fun with it.
I do like the anchor shot mechanic, figuring out the exact right time to toss a huge battleship into a bunch of baddies without wandering into a bunch of bullets is fun. I love how the level clear screens get a tad sexier each time. I already like it more than the Shienryu games.

Yeah, my experience was pretty much the same; right down to having just come off of Last Hope. It's a solid gimmick/score oriented shmup with a soundtrack that just exudes this sort of lovely cheesiness.szycag wrote:After playing Last Hope for so long this game was a breath of fresh air. Nah, just that arcade games are meant to be played w/ a stick. I will never get over that. Especially in this game where you simultaneously hold two buttons quite frequently.I really like the Dreamcast d-pad for most shooters. Is it something in the way you toss enemies that makes the d-pad crappy for THE, or is it personal preference?
Things I like:
-Scoring mechanic
-Small hitbox
Things I dislike:
-Lackluster graphics
-Bad music (again, I think 99% of all game music sucks balls though)
It seems to me they spent far too much money on the posters & characters, and not enough on the polygons and backgrounds. Oh, well. Beneath it all is some fun to be had.
I'm somewhat confused now on the rank of the game. I've seen the first stage boss have anywhere between 3 and 6 life bars.

The point is that they kept their promiseKron wrote:I still can't believe how Warashi can start off in 1998 and announce they are working on a Dreamcast sequel of Shienryu and then end up finally bringing a game to the system some 8 years after.
I love Shienryu's solidness. Shienryu has great music too. Shienryu was kinda Raiden clone-ish. That really worked. I wonder how they do in the we-have-to-come-up-with-something-original-class of shmups. Of which I have never seen a good example. I hope they don't put too much emphasis on the enemy slinging gimmick. Gimmicks should be implemented as gimmicks. Too often it is the case that mastering the gimmick is the way to victory and/or scoring. They should leave the gimmicks to be best used in some places, but not all the time.
It being as they made Shienryu I have faith in these guys.

I have hope that Karous will be the best out of the trio for recent DC shooters, considering the job Milestone did on Radirgy. There has not been that much positive input with the last two releases. I know some people like them but from what i see most dont. Time will tell

Well, to each his own, but Karous has gotten slammed by just about everyone. I've played it a couple of times. I think the level up thing is cool, and I love cell-shaded games if they're done right. But even this has very little charm. I understand Milestone is on a small budget, but they should've come up w/ a new scoring gimmick.
I'll vote THE as the best of the three. That's not saying much. Exelica is ugly, but underneath the shit, there's a decent game. Small hit box, multiplier... I'll take it.

Did you like Radilgy? Do you think Karous is as good, better or worse than Radilgy?GaijinPunch wrote:Well, to each his own, but Karous has gotten slammed by just about everyone. I didn't really cared for Chaos Field, but i liked Radilgy. It wasn't great, but I had some fun with it. If Karous is as good, I'll be happy.
