Why is Raiden Fighters Jet not called Raiden Fighters 3?
Silly question about Seibu's naming policy for the beloved Raiden Fighters series.
Does it contain some of the same levels as Raiden Fighters 2?
It has most of the same ships to select I already know.
Level backgrounds? Everything is new right? No levels or bosses from part 1 or 2. Regular enemies might be the same, that wouldn't be that surprising.
What about the music? All different right?
Is Jet to part 2 what part 2 was to part 1?
I wonder if Seiby just named it Jet to be cool or if they recycled some stuff that could make fans scream "...........is the same as in part 2"
I told you it was a dumb question. surely this question must raise eyebrows with other members too.
I can't even think of other examples
SF Zero, was different
Mega man X series were also different.
Jet is really in the same style as part 1 and 2.

I always thought it was a bit like the difference between Metal Slug 2 and X or Raiden 2 and DX.
Perhaps 2 and Jet are more different than I thought. I should really get round to playing them.

Slapping western numerals on titles is even less pleasing aesthetically in Japan than it is here, I imagine, because stylized kanji look cool (also, puns). Same answer for Mu...whatever-sama.CIT wrote:Why is Dimahoo not called Mahou Daisakusen 3?
Looking at it, I realize that it's a Westernized version of the Japanese naming scheme, which makes some sense.
Mahou -> Shippu Mahou -> Dai Mahou
or Mahou -> Hurricane Mahou -> Great Mahou
For comparison, consider the names of some games in the Ghouls 'n Ghost series:
Makaimura -> Daimakaimura -> Choh Makaimura -> Goku Makaimura
Ghosts -> Ghouls -> Super -> Ultimate.
Because Twin Cobra is a much better name. Duh!Why is Twin Cobra not called Tiger Heli 2?
Probably because it was marketed as the last gasp of the series (omg get this game or else). I hope that one's a lie.Why is R-Type Final not called R-Type VI?

why exactly does Gaijin have to a complete ass about pretty much anything he replies to? ya know, giving a decent answer every now and then like upstanding folks definitely wouldn't kill you. (this should go for CIT too, but I doubt he's rude all the time.)
I'll leave it to the others to answer, as I'm not exactly certain of naming schemes myself.

No "Densetsu" for Mark of the Wolves. Very interesting name difference.

Um, you missed my point. And Wild Ambition (and a couple more if you want to go by non-arcade exclusives).thegreathopper wrote: You missed a couple

But since we ventured off-topic, Fatal Fury is actually a JP-accepted substitution for Garou Densetsu. Garou Densetsu 3 is in fact referred to as Fatal Fury 3 on certain screens (such as on the title screen of any home version, US or JP).

Because R-Type Final is the fifth game in the series chronology? (Leo is a sidestory, so no, it doesn't count.)Ed Oscuro wrote:Probably because it was marketed as the last gasp of the series (omg get this game or else). I hope that one's a lie.Why is R-Type Final not called R-Type VI?

I'm thinking Seibu may have just wanted to be a little more creative with this name, just as SNK decided to let Fatal Fury 4 be known as Garou MOTW.
How they came up with "Jet" is a good question. I think the fact that RFJ is broken into a "simulation" and a "real battle" phase could have something to do with it.

I understand that you were pointing out that Fatal Fury doesn't follow the normal sequel pattern. I pointed out the Japanese titles because I feel it makes it even more unconventional, with the Densetsu being left out of the final title.Ganelon wrote:Um, you missed my point. Hee hee. Actually, even that might be a slightly off-kilter translation; the official game guide says "Reincarnation of Blood." Rondo sounds nicer (and paves the way for Symphony/Nocturne/Harmony/Aria), but...oh, forget it.Icarus wrote:It's Chi no Rondo, not Chi no Ronde.

Agreed, these games are good examples, because they have the exact same style of graphics.CIT wrote:Why is Mushihimesama Futari not called Mushihimesama 2?

Disagreed, these games are not good examples, because they don't have the exact same style of graphics.
Why should anybody gve a fuck?[/quote]
Agreed, I had that coming. I'm not offended whatsoever.
The underlying question was offcourse if it is a proper sequel or if some elements were rehashed.

You obviously missed the other thread... it was a pisstake on that. Probably missed a few of my other posts, too. I try to be either informative, or completely pointless w/ some humor thrown in. Is there not one boss in Jet that was also in 1 or 2?D wrote:The underlying question was offcourse if it is a proper sequel or if some elements were rehashed.
Who gives a fuck? I
I actually expected nobody to reply so I'm stil happy I got some repsonses by distracted-from-the-real-question shmembers who haven't actually played through 1,2 and Jet like myself.
At one point I thought that the thread was gonna be locked

Personally i like questions like this. They focus on the little things - tiny aspects of shmups that make them great. Such as - where the @#$% does Gallop fit into R-Type continuity?!? I'd post a thread like that but then it would just turn out kind of like this one, which really isn't so bad but... ^.^
