La Petite Princesse: More Than We Thought?

Post by BulletMagnet »

In case anyone hasn't seen the news item on shootthecore or the official site, it looks like the PS2 Twinkle Star Sprites game, "La Petite Princesse," is more than just a port of the original game: not only are there a few new characters along with a couple of old ones, but there's a new art style (reminds me a bit of Disgaea) and new in-game graphics going on...as for the gameplay I don't know what the deal is, but as Mr. Post says, this might be closer to a sequel than a port.

Here's the official page: http://www.snkplaymore.jp/official/twinkle_star/

I saw this too on Shoot the Core-- looks like a fun game. I assume you can play against an A.I. opponent as you can in Puzzle Fighter II and Pokemon Puzzle League? (I'm asking about the series in general because I haven't played a Twinkle Star Sprites game.)

In the original TSS you could play against the computer or a second player, so I don't see why this one wouldn't include that. Heck, maybe there could even be some kinda online thing going with this?

I'm not feeling the look of the game, it's not sharp or clean at all. It appears they did away with sprites in favor of cel-shading, which might be the reason why the name Twinkle Star Sprites has been dropped for this new title.

I agree.

I love the character art (those flying pigs are awesome) and the general style of the GUI as shown on the site, but I think the ingame shots look really terrible, especially the background gfx. They are a big step down from the original TSS artwork.

The name "Twinkle Star Sprites" is all over the place in the site BulletMagnet linked to. (Yes, most of said appearences are in katakana, but still...)

To me it looks like the backgrounds are 3D, but the characters/enemies are still sprites?. Although the screenshots are so small, it is hard to make any kind of judgement yet.

Anyway I'm going to buy it, when is the release date? :)

You know that a sprite is a kind of fairy, right?

When I first heard news of this, either from Click-Stick or Insert Credit, I looked at some of the tiny screenshots, and I was almost sure this was a sequel and not another port. One of the screens seemed to be covered in neon blue manicness.

Yeah, but I always thought it had a double meaning.

What the hell? This came out of left field. I never saw news of this until just now. Can't wait. Me and my friends have spent hours trading off going head to head in TSS for Dreamcast. Excellent versus shooter. Single player is kind of boring IMO though.

I'll definitely be picking this one up.

I looooove TSS, so I'll probably buy this one out of loyalty. Here's hoping it'll be a good game.

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but it looks like Lik-Sang has pre-orders open for "Twinkle Star Sprites" on its site...I can't imagine that this could be anything else than "La Petite Princesse."

Though I doubt anyone has much of anything left to pre-order it with, after Mushi, Taito Collection et al, heh heh.

I'm a bit confused - when did people think this was just a port?

Ever since I saw the first screenshot I knew it was a sequel.

SNK-Playmore needs to stop messing around. They have this insane back catalogue of amazing classics. I don't want their talentless new divisions wasting my time with half-assed sequels. KOF Maximum Impact anyone? SNK died a long time ago, and unless this is some miracle where the original dev team was tracked down and forced into making a new game I will have to remain painfully apathetic toward this until I can see it in action.

I've always preferred the original SNK team, many of their older prequels are better than this recent new breed of sequels. I mean SVC Chaos? I haven't really been impressed with playmore.

I could think of just about everyone else in production I'd rather read an interview with.

That looks really farking awesome there.

A lot of the old enemy patterns, as well as a few new ones.

And I guess since the video mentions "Matching", 2P online is there.
