Banned from any future tournaments:
mulletgeezer – 0 Points
NRS – 0 points
overdrive – 0 points
Ed Oscuro – 0 points
Belmont – 0 points
mice – 0 points
Kingbuzzo – 0 points
The parameters are as follows:
1. The tournament will take place over 6 weeks, which includes 5 play weeks. There are 3 initial play weeks followed by a 1-week hiatus. After the one “break week” the tournament will conclude with the final 2 weeks.
2. As the name of the tournament implies, it is based on old-school games, and will primarily consist of shooters appearing in the 16-bit era. Instead of merely playing these games on their defaults, however, there will be a twist as the game scenarios will be tweaked by me to create a more challenging environment. This could be as simple as increasing the difficulty in the option’s menu, but the possibilities are endless.
3. Play weeks will begin on Tuesdays when I post a new topic revealing the game and the criterion for how it’s to be played. Play weeks will conclude on the following Monday at 5:00 am GMT. A high score thread for the game will be created by me on Fridays, but won’t be updated till the conclusion of the play week.
4. This is an individuals tournament and rankings are based on high scores. Points are based on a scale of how many people are entered in the tournament. So if there are 50 participants, the scale is 50, and the top finisher receives 50 points with the point distribution descending from there. Point distribution is also based upon how many people compete during that given week compared to how many people are entered in the tournament. So basically the less people that compete, the more points that are awarded to the actual participants. Those who don’t participate will receive 0 points.
5. Any version/port of a game is acceptable unless otherwise specified.
6. At the conclusion of the final playing week, the player with the most points is the winner and walks away with the pride of knowing you are the master of old-school arbitrary shooter challenges.
7. If you are interested in participating, post in this topic. Registration will end a week from today, and the tournament will begin the following Tuesday, Feb. 20th. Only sign-up if you are willing to make the 6-week commitment. This topic can also be used for any questions or concerns.

So you were for real. That's good.. That's good.
I'll do this.
Provided nobody page-one's the Guidelines thread again, I'll hold off on the STGT stuff till this thing finishes.
Yo Edge! Suit up!

Don't worry, I spent a lot of time over the past couple of months carefully evaulating games making sure they are right for this competition as well as not being a chore to play. Though it's possible a game or two may want you to rip your hair out. It's all about how things go as I have more than 5 challenges created.

Offcourse I am giving this one a shot too.
I can't miss the oportunity to finally be the one who can bitch about the rules.
Let's see 16bit games special challenges...
a R-Type without force pod, Bio Metal without shield, Parodius Da! on Level 8, no Power Up runs in general... ?
Looking forward to some mean concepts, hope it won't make the games too frustrating though.

This is going to be interesting. A fight to the death between two even fighters...DJ Incompetent wrote:Yo Edge! Suit up!

I'll give it a shot. I need to improve my style in a number of different genres of shooter, so why not see what happens.

Hope you got $10 bux kid.
Sounds good, I especially like insane shmup challenges, it's the only thing that levels the playing field for me.
Definitely needs some TOAPLAN, and I would also like some Battle Mania and Gynoug maybe. Also I hate Bio Metal's 2Unlimited shit, can we play the JPN ROM? Please?

Which systems will the games be from? This is important, as emulator availability and quality varies wildly across operating systems.
