wazzup, long time no post...
Naxatsoft's unreleased Recca Summer Carnival 92

Solaria on the VS-Maxx 50-in-1 plug-in-play game "system"

Recca was developed by a Kindle Imagine Develop (KID) of Japan, a company that also created scores of date sims for everything from the Dreamcast to the Wonderswan. To my knowledge, Recca was their only shooter (damn shame too) that they pretty much made for fun - unlike liscenced crap like Pepsiman - and you'd have to sell your first born for cartridge. KID filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and then was swollowed by some other larger company just a few weeks ago. I cant find ANY info on the Vs-maxx (and I Google pretty well my friends) except that you can buy it for 10 bucks at basically any Target on earth and that the games are mostly total ass-tastic knockoffs of games I never really wanted to play when I owned a nintendo 20 years ago.

Does anybody know who could have made Solaria? Is it indeed KID? I cant think of any other shmup nearly as close in style so is this just the shooter world's biggest knock off? Do any of you Shooter Wu Masters out there own a vs-maxx 50-in-1? (pfft) 8) I mean, for $10 to $15 I might just order one at amazon just for that game (the pickins are gettin' slim besides, i'm getting my tax check soon and I feel like a big spender :) )

Interesting.

The two games look like a cross between Gradius and Zanac...Compile-like in nature.

Does Solaris really play that fast in normal mode, or was the game settings tweaked?

sheesh.

Um, isn't that 50-in-1 just hacked, pirated crap?

more or less, which leads me to believe that KID could have more shooters floating around out there.

Hardly, the games actually end in less than an hour, and, at times, actually try to kill the player. Well, Recca anyway.

Once again I must state my claim that Recca was released just like any other Famicom game. Proof being the box, the manual, and Normal/Hard/Zanki -game modes.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Yep.

Hell, the clone even has the exact same weapon set.

And it has new, extremely shitty music. I have some sort of handheld (50 in 1) in which all of the games have similar music, which are random notes mostly.

At least these guys had a good taste in what to rip off!

Ok...this was just a quick opinion...besides that clip I've never seen/heard of it before now.

Looked like a cheap Zanac/Power Strike (Compile) at 1st glimpse.

Like Ghegs said, Recca wasn't unreleased. I have a complete copy as well.

Recca was pretty much entirely done by Shinobu Yagawa, who would go on to do most of Raizing's games (and Ibara and sequels at Cave). The medal and weapon systems in Recca are very similar to the ones in later Raizing games.

Recca used an extremely hacked up version of the Dezaemon shooter creation engine. You can see some graphics that appear in both.

I think that Solaris shooter must either be a hack of Recca or also based on Dezaemon's engine.
bVork it up!
