This game has some really unique mechanical designs, I wonder if they ever released a mook for them.

I am not sure about the rank going up with the missed shots. This is why I asked. I saw various rank mechanic description through many japanese websites and asked. Then I took the rom folder of Taito Legends 2 and tried GF in mame with auto fire and the game became way harder. But it seems the rank can't be lowered. It was mainly a way to counter the auto fire devices in the arcade.

After reading the various answers it seems the saturn port won't be mine after all, thanks (except if the gamest booklet is interesting).
- the way the power ups/ bombs are aquired
- If the rank increase works with missed shot, the strategy to shoot accurately
- the ability to destroy everything for points
- the multi parts mid bosses/bosses
I doubt a mook has been published because :
- it seems there isn't any scoring secret
- apart from the way the rank is handled, everything is simple (but that works great !)
- GF has been a flop thanks to the arrival of street fighter 2
Even the coverage in the japanese gaming press seemed very low (the gamest issue only covered the first 3 stages), but I would really like to be proven the contrary.
It's quite the opposite on the arcade versionBulletMagnet wrote:If memory serves, there's some sort of autofire option on the Saturn port which makes the game a lot easier, but I forget the details.

I meant the ship and other vehicle designs. So I guess it'd be more like an artbook since the system isn't that complicated. The only unique mechanical designs would be :

The Saturn port originally came with some sort of extra booklet, I think all the "Arcade Gears" games did...I don't own it, though, so I have no idea what it contains.JoshF wrote:I meant the ship and other vehicle designs. Yes, the autofire option in the saturn version makes the game really easy to 1cc.
There's also no difficulty option, so it is a bit of a drag. The super-fast autofire can absolutely annihilate bosses.

It's a magazine/book, as in Gamest Mook.
