Don't know too much about the Polish gaming scene, but hopefully they won't screw this one up.

I still feel that the Japanese are the only ones who can make good shmups.

Nanostray was made by Shin'en, an European dev AFAIK.

Nanostray had potential... but Shin'en made a bunch of stupid small mistakes with that one. The graphics, music, level design, and the gameplay in general were superb though IMO.

I LOVE Nanostray; it's easily in my top 10 shmups! The only issue I had with the game was the weapon switching-you couldn't use the shoulder button to switch, which would've made that process much faster.

I have high hopes for Raid Over the River, so far it looks outstanding! The main shot in that video reminds me a lot of your primary weapon in Ikaruga.

I just want to type 'yes' in capital letters with an indefinate amount of exclamation marks to follow. This is what I've been waiting for. I just hope there's no touchscreen features whatsoever. There's really no need for touchscreen features in every DS game IMO.

I saw a bit of hardware recently that hooks the DS up to the TV. It's pretty crude and seemed to only display in yoko but if a better version of this comes around (one with some TV flipping invovled!) then it could be great with games like sonic rush and this one.

While I admit that I'm excited; where are the enemy bullets???

Renamed "ROTR" ("RIDE" over the River) and apparently still in production.

Sounds like an exciting game, but that fuel and ammunition management "feature" bugs me.

This may not be a traditional shmup......

Well, if the fuel is handled like in River Raid or Scramble, I'd say we're fine. After all it just means: shoot quickly at bonus pods or you die.

Annoying features or not, I think I'm going to pick this one up when it comes out. Saw the video and it looks pretty impressive.

Fuel management is one of the best parts of Zaxxon. Really, fuel management makes sense. You have games like Aerofighters where the guy is flying across the globe and never has a fuel issue?

1) That is old
2) Nibris seems to be a vaporware developer

Nibris has all of these cool "images" and supposed "tech demos" (although that's the only one that's ever been shown for the games that they've supposedly been developing for DS and Wii for well over a year), but they never show anything real for the games. They jump on the IGN/Gamespot forums occasionally making promises that they never follow through with.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I think Nibris sounds like a great developer on paper. Their visions for Raid Over River (DS) and Sadness (Wii), are fantastic, but based on their actions over the past year or so, I have little faith that anything will see the light of day.

the game looks interesting... except by the huge gap in the middle.

I don't know how can someone play it like that, can someone manage to keep focus on BOTH screens at the same time?

Good points:
Hitbox seems to be small
Action seems cool and the game is pretty fast

Bad points:
GAP IN THE MIDDLE.
Enemies coming from behind. UGH, in a VERTICAL shmup?

I bet we will be disappointed in the end though. Either the game will never be released, or it we will find it sucks.

the gap-in-the-middle doesn't bother me at all - but maybe that's because i was raised on Nintendo G&W a looong time ago:

boy, those were manic (and "the gap" was the least problem i had playing 'em...)

if ROTR really makes it to the DS i would actually consider buying new hardware for me - my last console-purcase was a DC in '99 :D

I checked their site the other day and it hasn't been updated in a long time. So it's good to finally see another video, looks like this guy has invincibility or something.

Yeah, video game history comes full circle. It actually took me a long while to realize the similarity between the Game&Watch-games and the DS

I didn't see too many enemies coming from behind, and I think it looks pretty solid. I think it'll probably get released; why would the developers have all of a sudden put out new gameplay footgae of this??

Special metion must go to the music, which is pretty amazing for a DS game.

Here is a new interview with Nibris.
AR: Currently only the face buttons are used in ROTR, but it is stated the touch-screen and microphone will also be used. Can you please explain how these two functions will be used?

Nibris: Of course! In the menu (main menu and the one before a mission starts) and during the slow motion feature of the game, where you can draw on enemies you want to attack the most using super-attacks. Also, the microphone will be used, for example as a ‘sonic weapon’, where the attack effect changes depending on how strong your voice is.
