?'s ref: DDP USED for PS1 at Play-Asia
First off I remembering reading that there was a certain PS1 shooter that didn't work on the PS2 and wanted to make sure this wasn't it. I think it might have been Gradius Gaiden. I only have a JPS2.
Secondly, does a US PS1 Mem Card work on a JPS2 with a JPS1 game? I know my US PS2 Mem Card works for JPS2 games.
And lastly, has anyone purchased a used game from Play-Asia before? Was it in good condition? I know that in general Japanese take much better care of there games than Americans, but when the price is $110 dollars you'd think the disc wouldn't have a single scratch on it.

Gradius Gaiden (Stage 7 doesn't work), Gradius Deluxe Pack (Gradius II doesn't work), and Toaplan Shooting Battle (Twin Cobra and Kyuukyoku Tiger don't work).ktg wrote:First off I remembering reading that there was a certain PS1 shooter that didn't work on the PS2 and wanted to make sure this wasn't it. I have a JP PS2 and stage seven of Gradius Gaiden works but at about at half speed. Music plays normally but there's constant slowdown until you get past the terrain being sucked into the blackhole.
It's annoying, but it definately doesn't make the game unplayable.
Maybe it's because I have a very first release PS2. The CPU clock speed hadn't been upgraded by Sony yet. (They quitely bumped it up over the years several times). But honestly, I don't know why mine can run it.

$116? What did you get besides DDP, if I might ask? ^_^
It's too bad I don't know of a way to make US PS2's play JP PS1 games, short of modding. I don't think the swap magic CD will work =( Otherwise I'd buy this.

If you have a flip top or (gasp) a slide card you can use a PSone game shark and swap when the GS tells you to insert the game. This doesn't work 100% on all games, though, because my copy of Makeruna! Makendo 2 doesn't load at all.Arvandor wrote:$116? What did you get besides DDP, if I might ask? ^_^

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Aha... Did not know that ^_^ I might just have to do this for DDP. I really enjoy the Saturn version, but everyone says it's this horrible bastardized inbred cousin abortion port.hikarutilmitt wrote:If you have a flip top or (gasp) a slide card you can use a PSone game shark and swap when the GS tells you to insert the game. Edit: n/m, I looked at one on ebay and it says it won't work on newer PS2s =/ Maybe it's just the wrong gameshark? Who knows. If it really comes down to it, maybe down the road I'll just grab myself a jp PS2.

It's a bit unfriendly all those people here offering you their copies for less than what you've paid after you've placed your order.ktg wrote:Oh well.

If you are really unhappy with your purchase you can cancel it with them but only before the order status changes to shipped (or maybe only even to the packing stage).
Play-Asia's 2nd hand stuff is mint and happy so if your order has been shipped already just trust in that you'll have a spotless copy. And maybe consider all that you overpaid learning money cause I'm pretty sure you'll check the average going price in the future before placing an order...(not in anyway meant offensive! I myself have overpaid for items as well in the past).

Yeah, I felt almost bad making the "you got a pretty bad deal," post, but we all have to learn sometime (I know I did, the hard way), I just figured I'd be the one to punch him in the face this time ;)
On that note though, while DDP goes for much less than what you paid for it, you're still getting your money's worth in my opinion. Dodonpachi is up amongst my top 3 shooters, those being Radiant Silvergun, DDP, and ESPgaluda (odd list, I know =P) If prices were all distorted, and DDP really did go for as much as Radiant Silvergun, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for that much. Truly awesome.

Unfriendly? He could've asked if it was a good deal before placing the order, but it looks like he bought it within an hour of his first post. In general, I'd say it's a good idea to poke around the web a bit before paying for an expensive item, but I think we're all guilty of making quick purchases in a hurry to get a wanted item.eretsua wrote:It's a bit unfriendly all those people here offering you their copies for less than what you've paid after you've placed your order.ktg wrote:Oh well.

No worries though, it's well worth that price and more. If anything, it's value will increase over the next few years, so its good to get one now anyways.

Really? Because people's panties seem to get in much more of a bind over the Saturn port of DDP than most other "bad" ports. I think the only complaint I've heard detailed was the "pixlated explosions" and remember thinking "Bleh, so what?"BulletMagnet wrote:Bah, the Saturn port's just fine, most of its inferiorities to the PS1 version are purely cosmetic.Arvandor wrote: I really enjoy the Saturn version, but everyone says it's this horrible bastardized inbred cousin abortion port.
I will admit this game is nigh unplayable in yoko mode though. I played quite a few shooters prior to DDP, and never really thought about or cared about tate. But after playing DDP for a few days, it just "felt" like it needed to be tated. So I procured a junky 19" TV from a friend, flipped it on its side, and viola... MUUUUUCH better, ahhh... Most games are fine in yoko, but DDP is ... just especially bad for some reason.

Damn and I was planning on buying that copy they had up, had my eye on it the last few weeks.
I just ordered valkyrie profile original from them not long ago with DDP Doj and while it was [pre owned] it was literly re shrinked and after opening it up you would swear it really was MINT, the spine card was perfect and all the warranty stuff was there, discs were spotless, I would easily buy pre owned from them again if they are all like this.
The price was pretty steep but I have a feeling it is probably ultra hyper NM, the real question is if that is a decent price for DDP in that kind of shape or not. I would have paid it simply because of the spinecard and shape of it, there was one up on ebay not long ago with no spine and it was around 69 or 79 I believe, I mean hey when your paying that kind of cash for a used game it better have a spine card.
1- is ddp psx rare or in high demand ?
2- What is the average in demand price for it on ebay when it is in the shape it was on p-a ?
3- Will it go up in value more or will it drop or what ?
Since this is the shmups community I am surprised nobody has really mentioned much over it being rare and its value, port issues and whatnot aside.

Its rarity isn't really a secret and gets mentioned around here frequently. It's in high demand since word of the quality of the port has now become common knowledge and everyone has accepted that the Saturn put out an inferior port (although for the record, I prefer the Saturn one to the PS one due to it being closer to the PCB).
I put a mint complete copy on ebay a few months ago and the highest it went was $50, but I've seen copies go for up to 70 or 80. If anyone was looking for one in pristine shape with the regi card, spine and all that, I could hook you up.
I think the value will continue to rise as PS imports become more in demand. Its a worthwhile investment for sure.
