Recommended PC Engine and PC Engine CD Games
Ok, I finally had purchased a PC Engine that can play CD games as well, and I'm curious on recommended games. I had purchased it for Cotton mostly, but I'm curious what else is out there. I couldn't find anything on game recommendations from searching threads, so I'm hoping to get some good info here.

CD sucks, just go for rainbow island and the nekketsu games
1943 Kai
Be Ball
Bloody Wolf
Bomberman '93
Daisenpu
Gradius
Nekketsu Dodgeball and Soccer
Parasol Stars
Chase HQ
Maybe a few others I'm forgetting, haven't messed around with PCE in awhile. I hate most of the shooters for it. I remember also liking Adventure Island, Boxy Boy, and Legendary Axe

Heh heh. The Topic That Wouldn't Die.
Cosmic Fantasy 2 and Dungeon Explorer 2 are fun RPGs, in English. Y's 1 and 2 is billed as the "must have" game for PCE. Y's 3 is not as good.
Dracula X, but it's not the masterpiece it's been hyped to be. Mind you, it's still good. But not THAT good.
Super Darius (w/ Dolby Surround WTF??) and Super Darius 2. Spriggan 1 and 2. Super Raiden is good, too. If you get the arcade card and a Six button pad, get Fatal Fury Special and World Heroes 2. Lords and Gate of Thunder (awesome music).
Vasteel is good (nothing to do with Thunder Force V), Macross 2036 will make your jaw drop with its fantastic effects (and it works on a system card 1.0!)
Rayxanber 3, Gradius 2, Star Parodier, Dynastic Hero...
Sheesh. Is it just me or the good-to-bad ratio of games on the PCE totally blows away the Sega/Mega CD?

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

There are two versions of Nexzr:
Neczur Summer Carnival has the Caravan (score attack) mode in it.
Then the regular *more rare* version which has... anime-esque cut scenes? Something.
I only ever had the regular edition. Soon as I get another PC-Engine Duo-RX though Nexzr is the FIRST game I'm getting.

Of course not. I'm talking about the American versions. There is no region coding on PCE CD games, so that's why I mentioned them.
@Hermosaguy. Well.. you see... this thread and the "what shmups should I get for Saturn" show up every 90 days, more or less. So don't feel bad, I was just being a jerk.

I notice the Saturn ones, but not so much Pc Engine. I wouldn't mind browsing through an old thread of this stuff either. I'm just hoping I didnt waste what could've been money towards a cabinet to this thing!Specineff wrote:Of course not. I'm talking about the American versions. Magical Chase is the very last TTI Hu-Card game for USA...

Please don't think that you could've gotten an arcade cabinet as opposed to getting a TG-16 with CD-Rom2 unit -- both are seperate sides of console & arcade gaming spectrum. Sure, the die-hard gamers have both to play with... ^_~
After spending a mere $29.99 USD for a brand new Turbo Grafx-16 console from a USA Toys-R-Us store back in early January 1994, it was a decision that I did not regret. Same thing for getting the very last brand new boxed Turbo Duo console for a mere $99.99 USD from a local Good Guys store back in November 1994 -- and worth every penny too! ^_~
Back in late 1993, into the entire year of 1994, and into 1995, going to the USA Toys-R-Us stores and Babbage's, one could buy brand new TG-16 & Turbo Duo games for a mere $14.99-$29.99 USD!
Why were the USA retail stores so eager to sell their TG-16 & Turbo Duo games so cheaply?
Answer: Because they had gotten word that NEC & TTI wasn't going to be selling the new NEC PC-FX console in the USA -- since retail shelf space is expensive these days, it made business sense to liquidate all their remaining TG-16 & Turbo Duo hardware/software to make more room for the competition: the Super Nintendo & Sega Genesis console market.
Here's an interesting tidbit of TTI folklore, back in late 1993, Turbo Technologies Incorporated had decided that the very last USA Hu-Card game title would be "Magical Chase" -- a shmup title, of course. It had a retail price of $49.99 USD and in mid 1994, if you were to go to your local Toys-R-Us store, you could pick up a brand new copy of USA Magical Chase for a mere $14.99 USD! I passed up on the opportunity thinking that it was some kind of kid's cutesy shmup-type of game. In 1995, I had a second chance opportunity to buy Magical Chase and took it.
How wrong I was to dispell the notion that Magical Chase is a cute'em type of shmup but with serious gameplay and harder bosses (especially the last end-stage boss!). It has been said that there are some minor differences between both the original Japanese Hu-Card versions & the USA Hu-Card versions of Magical Chase that the die-hard Japanese PCE gaming community is willing to pay serious yen for such a rare USA version of Magical Chase.
Unfortunately, TTI didn't make very many copies of USA Magical Chase and it remains the hardest Hu-Card to obtain to complete the entire USA TG-16 Hu-Card based collection. Good luck on finding one though... ^_~
Of course, if one were to pick up a boxy "Murai" Hu-Card convertor, then picking up an original Japanese Hu-Card version of Magical Chase would only set one back at $150.00 USD.....still not a bad price to play JPN Bios version of Magical Chase on a real TG-16 console. ^_~

Re: Magical Chase is the very last TTI Hu-Card game for USA.
Thank you! Definitely a great bit of insight! I had started my progression from psx, to ps2 to dreamcast than saturn and I am still putting off the cabinet purchase till I get a price I am happy with. So that leaves me being very curious about the pc engine, and i had purchased the US one with the cd and that 3.0 card hoping to try out the shooters on that. I've been hitting alot of sites trying to find in depth reviews, but what i'm finding out is that it seems people either really like or really dislike the system.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:For hermosaguy, hermosaguy wrote:I notice the Saturn ones, but not so much Pc Engine. Just what I wanted to hear-- apart from the expensive part. I'm always on the lookout for something cute and easy.Rob wrote:I'd say it is. Good music, good graphics, cute, easy. I just forgot to mention it. Magical Chase is very good, albeit pretty easy.
PS.
If you want cute and easy you could also try to find a copy of Coryoon. Difficulty is a little higher than Magical Chase. It's less expensive but very rare.
