Under Defeat, a prelude

Post by Kiken »

Ok, so I uploaded a video from the first loop of Under Defeat (3.2 million) to Super-Play. I'm trying for an All Clear vid, but I'm running into some trouble. It appears that the DVD-R unit I'm using actually causes frame-dropping whilst recording (the image being sent from the DVD-R to the TV can fall a couple of frames behind the actual output from the game). Needless to say, this makes dodging certain attacks (like the stage 5 boss' second form twin machine guns) very difficult and in general, can make the game downright frustrating to play.

It appears that I'll have to look into some sort of splitter cable for the video (I'm using S-Video to record) so that I can output a direct signal to both the DVD-R and the TV simultaneously.

Despite some mistakes, I wanted to post this video since I actually did fairly well in the first loop (all things considered). I removed any play from loop 2 (I only made it to 2-4). I'd like to appologize for the mono-sound. I didn't notice that the red audio cable wasn't making proper contact, so the DC was defaulting to mono output through the white audio cable.

When I do the final video, I plan to super-impose a zoomed-in display of my score and multiplier layout (like in the super-play DVDs) next to the actual main game footage.

See if your TV has a video out, and you can route it to the TV before sending it to the DVD-R... maybe borrow a TV that does. I'm using an old Panasonic CT-1383-Y with S-video in and S-video out.

Does SP need refresh time? I just looked and no dice on the video...

My TV only has S-Video In. It seems that picking up a simple Y-splitter S-Video cable will be the easiest way to solve this problem.

Some VGA boxes have S-video and Video outputs that work simultaneously. If you can borrow one, you're set. I'd lend you mine, but I feel it will be waaaaaaay easier to find one over there. :P

It's somewhat annoying of me to bump this... however, the replay has been made available for D/L.

Given the size of this file, it seems that an All Clear will end up around 300 MB.

Cool. I have never seen much footage of this game in action.

You make it look so easy. Excellent video Kiken, I was waiting for an UD replay for a while.

This is great stuff.
The level 5 section in particular...I've always had a hard time avoiding the barrage of bullets on those 3 floating spacecraft midbosses. I went back and tried it again last night after watching your superplay and was able to finally do it without using a bomb!

THanks a bunch!

Great vid Kiken.

Danmakugata posted a link to this site today:

http://www.geocities.jp/rfpqg182/tate.html

It has various UD replays including 1-5 and 2-2. Right click on any of the white underlined links to download the vids. I haven't watched them yet, so I'm not sure of the quality. But those who are interested might want to check them out.

There's also a Raiden 3 vid on the bottom of the page.
