I just spent about...an hour...making a MAME .inp file for MAME32, get it HERE. It seems that playing the game in a way it wasn't intended to be might be a good way to learn how it works :) The old Toaplan games also look quite a bit more impressive with everything still onscreen at the same time, and without any slowdown. Fire Shark in particular goes crazy (I tried that game first, but wasn't able to survive even this long).
As you can see, most of my practice was at the bottom area. I probably could've passed the harbor area as well, but I hadn't ever made it that far so I crumbled.
The movie quits before the continue screen comes up, in case you wanted to try to get farther.
