Are you training yourself on a game right now?

Post by 8 1/2 »

Right now I'm playing Dodonpachi (SAT version) again after a huge break. I'm just trying to get back to clearing it on a credit and then I want to focus on chaining a bit more so that I can crack something like 70 or 80 million... that would be just fine with me. I've been putting a few hours a day on it, and I've been making it to stage six just fine but the clear eludes me right now. The last time I did it, it took me a week of solid play, so I want to see if I can beat that time frame this go-round.

Anyone else pouring themselves into a shmup with a specific goal in mind?

I still have yet to 1CC a shmup. Right now I'm playing Ikaruga seriously and am getting pretty darn close to a clear. About a week and a half ago I made it to Stonelike, lost my final life with about 30 seconds left on the timer, and haven't gotten that close since. Some day...

Heh, the only shmup I've ever 1CC'd was Super Aleste  .

But right now I'm training pretty hard on DDP-DOJ. I'm not even worrying about score. I just want to 1CC this wonderful, terrible bitch goddess some day, dammit! I figure if I can beat that one, I should be able to make quick work of the other 'Pachis.

Right now my goal is just to get past stage 3-1 in Shikigami 2 on 1 credit. To 1cc the game is likely beyond my abilities, though one day I'll try to complete the game with the credits allotted.

I'm lifting up Guncon2 and shootin' zombies. If looking plain cool doesn't attract the chicks, maybe a little more shoulder-muslce will do. Previously, I was playing MSX like there was no tomorrow. Shmups-wise, nothing really, but before I started my break on them I completed 26 1CC of Gradius Gaiden.

Yow, don't worry, snap monkey, once you 1CC Ikaruga, you'll be able to 1CC a world of easier games ;)

I've only 1CC'd Elemental Master... I haven't seriously played any single shmup aiming for a clear, but I might be close in Lords of Thunder.
I half-heartedly tried Thunderforce II and III, but embarassingly I can't clear stage 2 in either of those games....why do people say they're pushovers?? X___________x

Thunderforce III you just have to survive long enough to get the shield and the homing weapon... it's pretty much cake from there. After awhile you'll start amassing 1ups aplenty.

Heh, I'm still debating whether I'm capable of being decent at shmups, or just Ikaruga. Although, that wouldn't be such a bad thing, I suppose. What a sweet game.

Gradius 5 - I have two goals, the first is a one-lifer of the first loop on normal, the second, a 1CC of the first loop on hardest.

Also, I've been planning on doing a Gradius Gaiden no miss. Very attainable, especially with a fully loaded Vic Viper, sporting the double.

I'm currently rotating through all of my recent purchases:

Dragon Blaze (on the Psikyo Shooting Collection 3):

It's Ian (and the Bone Dragon) all the way! I'm working on the whole fire-as-little-as-possible-and-use-the-dragon-blast concept of play. It certainly keeps the rank down plus nets loads of gold coins.

Giga Wing Generations:

After some more playing, I've started to see the patterns, and I plan on No Bombing, No Missing my way through the game at some point. Still need practice on Level 5 though.

DDP:DOJ:

Honestly, I'm not really serious about playing through this one. However, I do have to admit that the play-control is astoundingly accurate, and as a result, the game is not unfair. When I die, I know it's because I made a mistake.

Rez:

I've been busy opening up all of the additional modes and options in the game. Someday, I'll break 1.1 million in Direct Assault mode.

I've been focusing on my Ikaruga (DC) skills mainly. Still learning the bullet patterns each level at a time. I finally got to the final boss last night. But of course I was short on credits (actually had only one credit left), and I got shot down while dodging some CRAZY ASS SHIT. Man, as soon as I started playing the 5th level, I realized just how amazing this game really is! I currently have 6 credits and I'm about 15 min. away from 7. Hopefully 7 credits will cut me some slack.

Also, been perfecting my fighting skills with Capcom vs SNK 2. Trying to unlock God Rugal, who is a pain in the ass! I'm not giving up until he's dead......and selectable. Guess I'll just have to stop using different characters and stick to my usual team. ...Terry Bogard owns all!

Shikigami no Shiro 2, PC version with all settings for hardest difficulty level ... i cant get past stage 4-2 so i have to keep on practicin, til i get a 1CC on that one ... my milkin (and grazin) skills are buried, so i have to raise them up.

after that im headin to BanShiRyu and try to unlock the xtra stage (i have to 1CC the game in at least normal... never done that b4).

and after that... gotta sit and wait for C68, so i can get a copy of Touhou 09 .... ZUN its the masta of courtain barrage shmups (so i think).

i'm still trying to 1cc strikers 1945 part II pal on the ps1 on normal but i can't get past the damn 5th level due to the random first 4 stages. i'll get there easy as pie sometimes but when i get the fourth level as the one with the clusters of turrets i always get cornered and owned....

seriously i'm beginning to doubt my skills hehe

at the same time i'm playing throughff6 for the first time, playing sf third strike on the xbox anniversary collection, random shmups on mame and loads of stuff on my dc... i think i need to start focusing on one paticular project for a while, as i get so damn distracted.

oh and i'm revising for my uni finals and got my dissertation in in less than two weeks (slaps head)
