Dezaemon - where to get the usergames???

Post by gradius1 »

This is about the Dezaemon series - shmup construction software available for different consoles. There are a lot of shmups constructed with the different Dezaemon titles. These "homebrew" games are called usergames. There are quite a lot to find on YouTube:

Some of them look really, really good. Like G-Wind for example. Anyone knows if these games are downloadable somewhere??? I would really like to play them.

There is a 2nd disc with Dezaemon Plus for the PS1 which is entitled "Select 100". There are already 100+ usergames on it. But where can I get some of the other usergames which are not included there, i.e. speaking of Dezaemon 2 usergames for the Saturn.

For gradius1,

Back in 2000 or 2001, it was possible to d/l Dezaemon Plus "usergames" off the internet. I did d/l one but it requires a homebrew constructed PSX "Dex Drive" with custom software to unzip it to get it to work properly (that was listed on the www.gamesx.com site back in 2000-2001). This particular Dezaemon Plus shmup file is a 228KB zipped file and to be unzipped, would take up an entire 1MB PSX memory card to play properly on the Dezeamon Plus O/S.

Here's the link to get that customized Sakura software to unzip a few of Dezaemon Plus usergames: http://www.gamesx.com/mccap/

FYI, the Dezeamon Plus program only comes on just one PSX CD-Rom disc (but comes shipped with a double-CD box). This "2nd" disc you mention is the one Dezaemon Kids release for the PSX that comes with two PSX CD-Rom discs (and the 2nd disc has the one hundred different user-created shmups).

I'm sure it's possible to d/l some Sega Saturn Dezaemon usergames -- you'd have to be able to use some translation sites to filter through the entirely Japanese sites though (using Altavista or Babelfish, etc.).

A usergame created using the PSX Dezaemon Plus gaming engine will require a seperate PSX 1MB memory card to save and will use up the entire 15 blocks allotted. (This includes your custom-created sprites artwork, BGM tunes, enemy bullets, bullet patterns, stage background maps, etc.) A PSX mouse is strongly recommended for easier use of navigation of the Dezeamon Plus menu system interface (although it's not necessary but recommended).

Back in 2002, I won an eBay auction for a 80 page book titled: "How to Create a Dezaemon Plus game in 7 days" from a Japanese eBay seller. It has a lot of information on to get aquainted with the DP+ menu settings, etc. and even has more info on the winners in the first Dezaemon usergame contest for the SFC console -- those playable winning contest entries are included with the Dezaemon Plus software for you to play/try out/& to formulate your own ideas as to how to make your own shmup game.

Unfortunately, this Dezaemon Plus book is presented entirely in Japanese and would require some major heavy translation for the English speaking/reading world to utilize properly (would any of our Japanese speaking shmuppers be willing to do this service for us Dezaemon Plus users?). It is also out-of-print as well and has 1st printing date of 6/22/1996 at 1,280 yen retail price. Paid a respectable $27.00+ USD for it which is well worth it IMO. ^_~
