More Cave Arcade shmups coming this year

Post by EOJ »

Cave released its midterm annual earnings report yesterday, for the fiscal year ending in May 2007. In the report they outline their strategy for the rest of the year and beyond. Here is the report (top link on the page):

http://www.cave.co.jp/ir/index.html

I read through it, and on page 20 they mention their arcade strategy. They will continue medal games, and apparently move into some online arcade stuff (?), but they clearly state they will "continuously release Arcade shooting games". They say they plan to maintain their Arcade shooting games as the "top brand", and they will not release any other genre of games (exclusively shmups).

Looks like we can look forward to more Cave games this year. :D

The report does not mention any specific shooting game, and there is no mention whatsoever of any plans to have future console ports. They do, however, mention something about that Loverny game going to the Nintendo DS after its mobile phone release.

Cave has other divisions who make different kinds of games. The Arcade shmups division is just one aspect of the company.

Hmm...my memory's a little fuzzy, but I vaguely recall a previous report of some sort from Cave which didn't mention much in terms of shmups, but focused more on medal/mahjongg games, and got some people around here rather riled up...guess there was no real need to worry after all.

Well, that just goes to show how bullshit on the internet gets hyped up to no end. That financial report was released RIGHT after Pink Sweets if I'm not mistaken. The more likely truth was that didn't want to spill the beans about Mushi 2, so just didn't make mention.

ESPGaluda 3 perhaps?

Damn, we need a port of ESPG2. PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360- wherever it goes, I don't care. I just want to play it.

At least there is no mention of any plans to NOT have console ports either. It could be that they want someone like Arika to do the ports if there are to be any. I wish the Arika people would forget about the Ketsui replay incident.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Could be Espgaluda 3 or Ibara 3. Mushi 3 would be too soon. I hope they have at least one totally new game this year though.

I'd give up hoping for a Galuda 2 port if I were you. Just save up some cash and buy the PCB. A new kit is under $600 now. Less than a PS3 (and ten times more fun).

They likely have. People keep attributing this lack of Arika ports to that incident; the real reason seems to be it's just too much work.

I went to my local arcade for the first time in about 7 years and there were a grand total of 0 shmups, while there was a ton of driving games and a ton of light gun games. Lucky Japanese.

Cool, I really look forward to them, although I probably won't get to play any of them until at least 08 or later. I'm sure they will be pretty good, and one day they will probably be more in my price range. 2007 is all about the classics for me though. I just got my Neo Candy 25 and rotated the screen. So far I have ESPRaDe and Super Contra to play in it. I love them both and they will keep me entertained for some time. When I get some more cash though, I will probably pick up another board later in the year. I'm not sure what I should grab, I'm kinda leaning toward a Batrider board, but I see that new Ibara kits are selling for a relatively good price. I want to check it out, but I'm kinda iffy on spending 2-300 on a game I've never played before. I've also seen a bare espgaluda board for 300 around my area, but I haven't played that one either.

Whatever they make, it's gotta have a brand new gameplay system and a dark theme. I'm getting tired of all this sugary bullshit.

I really believe the dark themed Cave shmup era is over. I doubt they will make another shmup as industrial as Ketsui or DOJ. Cute, upbeat stuff sells better.

On the other hand, many other recent genres have a very grim touch to them - first person shooters, the GTA genre, war games...

I'm thinking continuing with the SHMUP cycle.

Dondopachi DJ 2 would be the next shmup released from cave.

High chance of Ketusi 2 as well.

Both are excellent all Hail CAVE for their shmup wonders.

As much as many people including me would love to see a Ketsui, Guwange or DOJ sequel, I really doubt this is going to happen. I don´t have any indication for that, but I would be really surprised to see that happen.

here here!

i definately prefer the more industrial themes, dark themes, 1 versus the world themes.. whatever.

maybe a less regurgitated scoring mechanic wouldn't hurt either...

In before this thread balloons into a ten page topic of 'what I want to see from Cave this year...' wishlists.

More new ideas please, Cave. Despite people's seething hatred of Ibara and Pink Sweets, I find them the freshest games Cave have done since their pre-Daioujou era. More experimental ideas would be most welcome by this Cave fan, and Cave can obviously continue to churn out sequels to appease the rest of the rabid fanboys.

Don't worrie, if they hired Yagawa, certainly they want him to make more games, so I think Ikeda will continue to produce classic Cave shmups, while Yagawa will continue to express his ideas, like he did with Pink Sweets.

We must have faith!!! ;)

:D its good to know that cave is supporting the shumps market for 2007. though i hope cave invest in a more powerful hardware for their future shumps titles. a hardware that would eliminate all glitches in their previous and current shump titles.

According to Danmaku-gata (which just links to someone elses blog) Cave's next game will be shown at the Arcade Show next month, and is entitled ______ Pork. Pig? Who knows. Rumor has it it will be quite character-driven (surprise).

Bah. Boobs are cool and all, but I wants my high-tech futuristic fighter jets and phallic oversized laser beams.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Why don't we save the 'I hate girls' moment until there's at least some info about the game.
