Japanese error message while playing a gamecube game on Wii
Heya. I know there's japanese speakers here, so I was wondering if someone could translate this for me.
I bought a Freeloader as soon as they were available for PAL. I ordered it and it arrived today. It seems to work with all american gamecube games but I'm getting this error when playing Shikigami no Shiro II for gamecube.
Also, I'm getting the same message for the japanese Ikaruga for gamecube, except it isn't displaying japanese, just a mess of unencoded japanese and "OFF".
Can someone tell me what I can do to fix this? I'd appreciate a translation if someone could.I'm using a PAL Wii bought from EB Games Melbourne, Australia. The Freeloader is 1.0E. I'm using component cables on the Wii which are third party.
Other fun facts: The title screen loads, I can configure options, view the tutorial of Ikaruga (visuals and all) but the actual game when I attempt to start (in Shikigami no Shiro II, it won't go past the cutscenes on/off but that menu's visible, and in Ikaruga the SELECT MODE robotic voice occurs but) doesn't load.

Don't know how he's doing that dude. The Gamecube Freeloaders don't work on the PAL Wii, period. Not even 1.60b which was the latest. The only one which works for the PAL Wii was released earlier in the week. I have a 1.60b Freeloader and it won't load.D wrote:A friend of mine also has problems playing Japanese EVO 3.5 on his PAL Wii, but he probably has an old freeloader (it worked with his PAL gamecube)
I tried a couple of american GC games and they work fine.. japanese on the other hand, kicks the bucket.
(very roughly...)
An error has occurred. Please turn off the main unit's power by pressing the power button, then follow the instructions of the <something> of the user's manual.
I can't identify the kanji for the <something>, but it's probably not going to help you anyway. Btw, the Japanese for user's manual is とりあつかいせつめいしょ - toriatsukai setsumeisho.
Tip: if you want to get a photo of a static image on a CRT, use a longer exposure (if you can)

What error could be occuring here, though? It's really annoying, because this means my japanese GC games won't work.. all my GC games that ARE japanese ARE shmups so I can't tell whether it's something to do with all japanese GC games.. or just shooting ones.ReKleSS wrote:(very roughly...)

Anyway, thanks. That helps quite a lot in the translation. Although I'm still unsure as to why it's giving this error.. when the game works perfectly on my PAL Gamecube.

But.. but that doesn't make any sense. Firstly.. this isn't a gamecube. It's a Wii. Secondly, it only happens with japanese games. Fourth..ly, it only happens when I try to start a game of either shooter.Specineff wrote:I got that error with a Cube that had a faulty laser. DRE, perhaps?
If it was a disc read error, wouldn't it be doing it for ALL games, not just the japanese ones?
My (completele baseless...) guess would be it's trying to set some video mode that's no longer available. It's a PAL unit, emulating the previous generation's hardware, for an NTSC game. Either way, the game is probably trying to do something the hardware doesn't like. I somehow don't think cross-region gamecube stuff was a major focus of Nintendo's testing...
Anyway, why would play-asia give you a refund?

Maybe cuz their site says this.ReKleSS wrote:My (completele baseless...) guess would be it's trying to set some video mode that's no longer available. More specifically this that says the Freeloader works on PAL Wiis. The Freeloader's a device which allows you to play american/japanese games on a PAL Wii. And there's no mention of it NOT supporting these two games.
Well guess what? Play-asia just sent me some bullshit excuse.
"Our website says "Not 100% compatible with the Japanese version of F-Zero GX and Paper Mario 2" so it should be assumed not all japanese games work with the Freeloader."
Then they started to give me instructions that were from the Freeloader. FOR THE GAMECUBE. You can't press the Z button on a gamecube controller when using this, because the Wii doesn't detect the controller until after the game has loaded.
This is trash.

First I am not 100% sure on this but I am pretty sure.
From what I understand second gamecube models ( that is the ones WITHOUT the component or digital plug on the back ) are not 100% compatable with freeloader, and thats ANY freeloader versions, this is not just a pal thing either.
I have a few GC imports and all work except Gundam Piolet, I never tried this on my first plat original cube but I own a black new model now and it refused to play that one game past the opening movie.
I believe the wii is also using the "last" game cube bios model also, so chances are the wii will face the same problems, sucks I know but its certainly not play asia's fault, its nintendo changing their hardware or making it so freeloader screws up.
I know this because I had asked about in the Gundam section before and someone also had the same problem on a newer cube, on top of reading about other games having the same problem, its not alot but there is a few out there, time and again most people give this same answer, its the newer cubes and that nintendo put in some fix for it to stop people from doing it lol.

Redemption is a word which has no meaning here, your lord and master is my dog and we feed him.
Seems like we have the same problem Arznei
I basically have exactly the same problem as you, except it's on my Gamecube. I've got the Freeloader 1.0E, and I get the same error message playing Naruto 3 after it boots to the menu.
The other boot methods don't even work for me, pressing Z does shit all.
So if Play-Asia won't give out refunds, we are fucked unless there's a workaround

Play-asia have asked me to return it and they'll refund. I'll give it some thought because I'm not sure if I should just keep it for the american games.donnytuco wrote:Seems like we have the same problem Arznei
