Stranded on a island with only 1 arcade shooter which one?

Post by Maikeru_Rocks »

I'm still new here!

This is a GOOD question and a tough desicion. I would have to go with Takumi's 2D masterpiece Mars Matrix: Hyper Solid Shooting just because i play this game(import only) like mad crazy. Also to have the arcade version right in front of me will keep me on my toes. Plus to play Mars Matrix: Hyper Solid Shooting on a classic Capcom arcade cabinet is amazing. Knowing the CP System II-based hardware is the best for 2D shooter is overwhelming. Going with my gut instinct hands down
it's Mars Matrix: Hyper Solid Shooting! POST YOUR FEEDBACK ON THIS SUBJECT IT MAKES YOU THINK LIKE UM!

I asked your exact ? on the old Shmups forum but cool again

Welcome to the Shmups forum Maikeru rocks,

On the old Shmups forum, I asked the same exact question and got some interesting answers. I'd have to say that if I only had to choose just one arcade PCB to play with on a stranded island, I'd go with a Raizing/8ing's Armed Police Batrider PCB. That shmup game alone has the most insane shmup easter eggs (or hidden tricks) of any shmup arcade PCB ever released!

You can even play in "slow-motion" in Batrider if you have auto-fire capable fire buttons when in "Pause" mode.

Plus just the massive regular characters/aircrafts selection (plus several hidden guest characters/aircrafts) alone is more than enough to play through them all and learn the finer points to master this insane shmup PCB beast that is known as Armed Police Batrider.

Mmm...Probably Esp galuda, for two reason: fantastic score system and gameplay and the not impossible difficulty level.

Yep, I have to go with APB as well.

its crazy how much people, when asked that question, reply with mars matrix.

for me its a toss up between MM and DOJ, but i think DOJ, since it would probably take much longer to "master"..

Any CPS2 shooter.

So with all that plastic and that fan I could fashion a small motor boat.

If the A-Team were there too, that would be a huge bonus.

LOL

And if the A-Team came from the sky with a Naomi Ikaruga cab? It would be much better!

Raiden 2. Could change my vote to any other shmup anytime but at the moment it would be this game.

Earth Joker: its existence would give me all the motivation I'd need to put every ounce of my energy towards getting off that island.

Probably Dimahoo, or one of the Gradius games (V or sexy/goku).

I'd say Ikaruga. Because I've already been stranded on two islands with that game, and it kept me happily occupied for hundreds of hours both times.

An impossible choice of course, while ironically a pick 3 or 5 games would be easy.

Ultimately I'd have to pick Garegga just coz I think it is probably one of the deepest shmups I've played and you can play it any number of ways. Garegga allows you to be creative, something that a lot of shmups do not.

Hum....if it were a traditional shmup I'd probably choose Progear. If I could bring a run'n'gun it'd be Metal Slug 3.

I would take the damn cab apart and build a raft to get the fudge out of there, come home, and play Shiki 2.

Dodonpachi DOJ. Even if you work your way up to 2 billion points, there are still going to be new things to learn. Deepest shmup ever.

I guess Batsugun Special Ver. although I'd probably go crazy out of monotony after I spend years to practice and eventually manage to get a perfect score every time I play.

Gradius Gaiden. I'd keep looping it forever.

or something hard as ball$, like mushihime on Ultra or whatver the highest difficulty is called.

Well, for the sake of the thread's one shmup only premise, it would be the Saturn rev of Batsugun (having both special and original versions would give some variety).

But that's absurd! I NEVER go travelling without my modded PSOne, GBA-SP, and a few shmups. So it would be more like:

Donpachi (PSX)
Dodonpachi (PSX)
Raiden DX (PSX)
Gradius Gaiden (PSX)
Harmful Park (PSX)
Gradius Galaxies (GBA)
Koutetsu Teikoku (Steel Empire) (GBA)

Which would keep me entertained for a while...

probably ikaruga. I could be stranded there until i died of old age and i probably still wouldn't be able to beat the 4th boss.

As usual, my answer is Flying Shark (Sky Shark over here in the States). Best shmup ever, and the first one that got me hooked! :D

Probably Strikers 1999 or Gunbird 2.

But one of those adult mahjong games sounds awfully tempting.

I wouldn't choose any shmup that I didn't want to risk hating. Because I WOULD start to hate it after a while. :)

I'll go with Gradius III.
