I'd love to see the original Japanese before contending that's what he said. I'd be fairly certain if they felt that way you'd see way more direct support for the west.http://www.emuxhaven.net/~silver/SS%20M ... egawa.html
an old article, but it's there nonetheless...should have linked it first post.

Already been done. Monty Python's Flying Circus, for IBM compatibles.jp wrote:Limbrooke wrote:If you can't handle 2 games that have chaining on a similar levels yet being so vastly different then here's to hoping Treasure 'makes an original' game.
You start off with 999999999990 points. You lose points for every enemy you kill.
Anyway, I agree with Rob, chaining = ew. Maybe some of you folks appreciate that because you're just that good, but for the rest of us it's just a colossal pain that keeps us from competing

Port from Amiga/ST rev, it appeared on all the home computer formats in Europe at more or less the same time.Ed Oscuro wrote: You start off with 999999999990 points. You lose points for every enemy you kill.

Why you people so sure that their game (or games since there's also talk about a XBLA game) will use the d-pad as the main control method?Perhaps a decent dpad will emerge in the coming year. I read somewhere that Microsoft is thinking of releasing something similar to Wii's classic controller.
And about the whole Wii Treasure game...they probably want to come up with something original. I really hope they take their time because there's just too much rushed crap on the Wii right now (yeah, I'm looking at you ubisoft...).
1UP: On one hand it's great to see all these games coming out on Virtual Console, on the other we're bummed that a lot of the Treasure games we've collected might not be as rare anymore.
MM: That's actually one of our concerns as well. Introducing the games to new players is of course great for us and for the industry, but the people that are most important to us are those who have bought our titles over the years - the ones who have been loyal to our stuff all along. We've actually had conversations internally about whether this is disrepectful to our hardcore fans, but hopefully people don't see it that way.
It's talk like that which gives 2D retrogamers a bad name.

Given the 360's lack of popularity in Japan it seems pretty obvious that Treasure will be targetting the abroad markets specifically. Here's hoping they stick to what they do best and dont try to 'westernise' their ideas.
:: SHMUP-DEV :: - what it says on the tin
Would love to see a shooter that had similar weapon mechanics to Ikaruga and/or Radiant Silvergun (I think absorbing bullets/switching colors is pretty cool!) but with non-puzzle/no-chaining gameplay. More randomness. More fun blowing shit up. I want to old-school blast-em-up with new-school weapons!

Few months ago I've read on 2ch how Treasure's president stated in japanese magazine GameSide that 'X360 shmup project' is on hold and they're working on something else (for 360), and how they're preparing something for Wii aswell.
Can't find original post, here's excerpt from Treasure's thread on 2ch

Of course I don't have the magazine so I don't know whether it was for real or not.

I'd bet they canned (or will soon can) the X360 shmup. The only other Treasure game announced, developed a bit and then "stopped" in production by Treasure, afaik, was Gunbeat (see http://www.mrmonkeyman.com/treasure/gunbeat.html for info). That game was never released. Treasure doesn't "stop production" on things they plan to release.
I wouldn't be surprised if they switched focus to the Wii for an upcoming shmup, as the X360 is still selling like crap in Japan.

Interesting footnote/rumor from 1UP this month; their staff mentioned on a podcast that they heard rumors that Treasure were working for a while on a new Darius title for Xbox 360 but that the project has now been cancelled.hirounder wrote:Few months ago I've read on 2ch how Treasure's president stated in japanese magazine GameSide that 'X360 shmup project' is on hold and they're working on something else (for 360), and how they're preparing something for Wii aswell.

Wait a tick. Doesn't Square/Enix own the rights to Darius now? Weird.

If Square/Enix owns Taito, then it would be safe to say that they do own the IPs to it. Another Darius shmup title would be great. The last great arcade-based Darius shmup was none other than G-Darius back in 1997 running on the Taito FX-1B based mobo setup. ^_~PepsimanVsJoe wrote:ARGHThunder Force wrote: Interesting footnote/rumor from 1UP this month; their staff mentioned on a podcast that they heard rumors that Treasure were working for a while on a new Darius title for Xbox 360 but that the project has now been cancelled.

They're probably waiting for G.Rev to finish up mamoru-kun so they can start work on the engine for the game.Rai82 wrote:The last time Treasure appeared on 1up interview was on September 2007, Maegawa said that due to workload directed to XBLA Ikaruga, development for the new Xbox 360 shooter was postponed. Ikaruga was released on April 2008, so I guess they should have resumed work on the new project by then?
With that in mind, I wonder if they're going to even start working on the sequel to Senko no Ronde sometime this year.
Taito would probably outsource the porting of G.Darius to the 360 to G.Rev, since part of the team that worked on that game left to form it, not to mention they already have some experience with working on the hardware. They might consider it if they need more money for the next episode to Senko no Ronde.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:

Of course this is all assuming that Taito does want to port the game over to the 360.
developer != publisher, there's no problemPepsimanVsJoe wrote:ARGHThunder Force wrote: Interesting footnote/rumor from 1UP this month; their staff mentioned on a podcast that they heard rumors that Treasure were working for a while on a new Darius title for Xbox 360 but that the project has now been cancelled.

Then again 1UP saying something doesn't make it any more likely than before they said it. It's very blatant that if there was ever going to be a new outsourced Darius, G.Rev would handle it (and it would probably be the best game in the series).
It...actually doesn't sound like that much of a stretch, coming after Gradius V and considering the 360's widescreen display being completely appropriate for Darius.
Anyway, I just hope they're doing something now that'll reach a release somewhere in the next few years, rather than be caught in development limbo and cancellations.

I'm getting pretty tired of them being caught in the middle of making a game, and then having to quit.
Their shooters are amazing, and i'm getting pretty tired of waiting. One could say that my frothing demand is increasing for the next Treasure shmup.

I would approach this with some skepticism. The fact that they've explicitly mentioned developing their 360 shmup independently and talked about their intention to shop it around to publishers, with MS as their hopeful choice makes it seem highly unlikely that was an existing IP from another publisher.
Of course it could have been another project or a retooling or something, anything's possible, but given the usual accuracy of Treasure rumor-mongering, I wouldn't put too much stock in it.
