Varth (or any CPS1 game, for that matter) won't run on the CPS2PSP emulator. However, there is a separate CPS1PSP emulator (also coded by NJ) that will run it just fine. There's no need to generate cache files for the CPS1 games - just place them in the usual roms folder and everything will run normally.

You don't need to re-cache your CPS2 roms if you're switching to 3.03 OE-A. Just place them in the GAME150 folder as mentioned above.

The Japanese rev of Progear runs perfectly, but when I load the U.S. rev, the screen is all pixely and yellow/brown with half of the picture missing. Anybody know how to fix this? Just try re-downloading it? No biggie though as all I care is that the right one works. ;)

edit: NM. I reloaded the US zip and cached it again, works fine now, no more garbled screen.

Tomorrow I plan on installing the 3.02OE-A and B custom firmware. Maybe a strange question but after installing it do I have to recache/redo my CPS2 files?
you need to install the CPS1PSP emu on your PSP in order to get CPS1 games runnin there.

if you're gonna make the jump to 3.0x firmware, i recommend you to do the jump straight to 3.03 OE-A, and then, apply the patch to 3.03 OE-B ... when you do that, you neeed to place the emulators in the Folder GAME150, no need to re-cache the roms nor shit... they'll work right away from the XMB game menu! (like the ISOs), you wont have to have installed the DevHook or somethin (i have it there, just in case) and thats it.

i reccomend you to install this emus (all from the same dev NJ, and all final versions):
NeoGeo
CPS2PSP
CPS1PSP

i have'm installed, and they run pretty PRETTY Good.

well ... i at 1st, bought it because what it "had" to offer... you know, pretty graphics and shit... but when the emus evolved the way they did, i was more than happier that i bought it ... true, i had to "burn" somethin like 300 bux for it (with the 2GB MSPD), thats quite a lotta money... but, since im not home most of the time, i had no choice (from my POV anyway)...

PSP's are cheaper now (not much anyway), so, if you feel like shellin out 200+ bux, go for it, you rpobably wont regret it.

Thanks for the info. Now have OE-B installed. Pretty amazing stuff. Once I have some time I am going to load some of my PS1 games on it.

I had the Neo CD emu last year and it was great. But I had to delete it for space (before I had a 2 gig card) and after updating to to 2.5 there was no point in keeping it. I may get it again but the MP3 files take up so much space. So I'm just gonna get a Neo CD system instead someday. :)

im not talkin about the NeoGeo CD emulator... im talkin about the NeoGeo MVS emulator dude!... some games are gonna be HUGE (Metal Slug 3 and the likes), but others, wont even need a cache file (like, ZedBlade)... right now, i ahve somethin like 15 NeoGeo games on my MS, and they take somethin like 400-500 MB total (the whole MS colection, shock troopers 1&2, and all of the NeoGeo shmups thereare for the MSV)... and so far, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good man!... theres some slowdown here and there but, they all run PERFECT wit sound and all that.

give it a try, trust me, you wont regret it (right now, i only have 2 games for the PSP on my MS, MindQuiz and Gradious Collection)... the rest?... emulators!

Ahhh, duh. How silly of me to forget that he also made an MVS emu.

Picked up a LE model. I have no need for homebrew so a PSP that can be downgraded is useless to me.

Ignorant n00b requests help: I'm thinking of getting a PSP for the upcoming Konami shooting collections, but I want these emulators too. Will I be able to do that downgrading/upgrading trick (or something similar) on a newly bought PSP, or do I have to find a used one with 2.80 or earlier?

you're safer if you happen to find a new or used PSP with FW up to 2.80 (the ones that can be downgraded, since from FW 2.81+ theres no downgrade trick yet)... if its not already modified with the latest custom FW, then do the proccess, and get it to the FW 3.03 OE-B (the latest), and its pretty possible that all those upcomming shmups (due out next week) will run there.

just got this to work for my PSP, so far, so good, except that I get random missing background tiles in Mars Matrix, and the framerate would drop from time to time in Progear and MM.

^hmm... in that case, did you run the emulator roms from the .rar, or did you extract the whole thing first?

Maybe that's what I did wrong.

i run the ROMs froma lil compressed (ZIP) image and a cache file (created with the according program)... and, i only experience slowdowns on NeoGeo games that needs a big cache file and draws too many bullets onscreen at once (like, say Shock Troopers or Strikers 1945 Plus)... in progear, everything is so smooth that sometimes i just cant believe it.

mars matrix, i havent tried it yet... so i cant tell... bug again, in progear, everytihin is ok... but i still cant 1CC it <sob>

^ nevermind me, I just realised that I'm using the old CPS2PSP Beta, instead of the final revised one.

Yes, all the roms now run so smooth, I can't believe it either! O_O
That NJ Japanese guy is a god (he's like, came into existance, gave us three wonderful emulators for the PSP while making updates for it every few days, then release the source code and then erase his existance from the Internet, wtf lol).

Say... is there a way to get other mame shooters on the PSP too? Like, ESPRade, Battle Bakraid/Garegga?

as of now, not quite... theres a version of mame for PSP if im not mistaken, BUT, its pretty much slow and shit (you know, MAME goes for acuracy instead of speed)... and the rom list that actually runs in that build, its pretty small.

maybe in a future, if some emu dev wants, can code an emu with those speed tweaks so that we can enjoy those CAVE shmups on the go too... pretty unprobable, but hope its the last thing you lose.

the strange thing with Mame is that the PSP version is in such a bad state whilst the GP32 managed to get around 600 games running fine :/

What is the current state of MVS PSP emu? last time i checked a lot of games weren't working, but that was several months back.

Welcome to the forum. Indeed the state of Mame on the PSP is startlingly bad. It's probably just a matter of not enough development activity in that area. Hopefully one of these days a serious emu author will tackle that project, which would be so ideally suited to the PSP.

Blazing Star seems perfectly emulated now, with the unzipped per-game cache files feature (ala CPS2 emu) that the recent MVS emu supports.

Hi there :) Thanks for the welcome. It seems weird that PSP Mame stopped and started so abruptly - it would seem that it's the most obvious thing to port. Ah well, fingers crossed.

Fantastic - Blazing Star was the game i was looking to play - thanks again.

It's all cool to play Blazing Star on a real Neo-Geo MV-1 motherboard when I get the itch and even cooler to play it on the go on my 1.50 firmware PSP with MVSPSP v1.51 emulation program -- it still hasn't been upgraded either. ^_~
