Wow, that's a shame. Ibara is probably my favorite recent shmup, so I'm sorry to hear this.

Yeah. And I just pre-ordered it yesterday!
I wonder if my $15 coupon will still apply to the other items in the order at least...

This sucks so bad, I was really getting hyped to finally play Ibara.

Well guys, you can still play it on the PS2 if you want. The original print can be had used for around $40~$45 if you look (and it's not exactly RARE). If you don't like the game you can sell it and get your money back. What have you got to lose?

Yeah, it's EASILY worth the money, imo. I paid more than that, and I'm more than happy with the purchase.

I'll still buy it, but now I can't get it off Play Asia anymore, so I'll have to pay extra shipping as well (I was going to get Mushihimesama Taito Best, too). So it is pretty bad new for me at least.

Damn, this sucks... Odd thing is that Play-Asia still lists the product and has it scheduled for 18 january. Really hope it's going to be a delay, and not a total cancel.

I'm not sure why P-A.com still lists it, maybe they're slow to get the news. It's off Taito's schedule and Amazon.co.jp deleted the pre-order page for the game. It's cancelled.

It's the cheapest Cave shmup PCB kit you can buy these days.

Bugger!!! I'd just ordered it from YesAsia a couple of days ago. They still have it listed as well.

NCSX now has Ibara as TBA 2007. As far as I can tell they are still taking preorders. This may be due in part to an optimistic viewpoint that the game may still be published in the near future. It gives me a little hope...

There's two on ebay right now at slightly less than original retail. Just buy it if you want it.

After purchasing the amazing Ikaruga last week, I have become incredibly interested in shooters of all types. When I was young, the only shooter I had played alot was Super R-Type. In the last week, I have discovered this site and read an incredible amount from here and other sources. I see the majority of the great shooters haven't been released over here in the states. This Ibara game looks incredible, but I don't have a modded PS2. I was wondering if there is a chance Cave might release like a collection of it's games for the US or something. I know I am a noob. Thanks!

None of Cave's shooters have ever made it outside of Japan, and atm it looks like a lot of its recent releases may well not be making it to home consoles at all, so methinks it's a pretty safe bet that you'll have to import to play any of them.

About how much would it cost me to mod my PS2? (I have the slim) Also, do you guys think it is worth it to track down and import some of these games or should I just look for games that have made it over here? I just have a SNES, PS2, DS and a Wii.

I don't know about modding (I just bought a Japanese PS2), but most shmups on it (and most systems, really, especially more recent ones) got released only in Japan, so limiting yourself to domestic releases only will reduce your selection pretty dramatically. Granted, there are some good domestic shmups, but if you want variety you'll have to import.

I definetly feel it's worth it. Few of the western released PS2 shooters are very good and the japanese released Cave games are among the best of any console generation. Plus you can play the great PS1 versions of Donpachi and Dodonpachi.

Cheapest method is probably the Swap Magic - runs about US$25 when I last looked, and with the slim PS2 it's not all that annoying. Doesn't affect your warranty, either.

Also, some Cave shmups did get out of Japan - DP, DDP, ESPrade all have US (arcade) releases. Doesn't seem like it's going to happen again, though.

It affects your warranty if you have one of the newer slims. I forget the model numbers, but the newer ones have a metal piece blocking the lid's hinge-slot, so you have to open it up to block off that last sensor. Swap-magic is still the easiest and cheapest way to go though ^_^
