There are some MAME versions which support netplay, like MAME32 Plus! Plus! and MAME32k, maybe there are some more... ?
Also Kawaks supports netplay, but you and your friends need a very good internet connection if you want to get a at least playable lag.
MAME 32 for every thing arcade. Used to use Kawaks and was a huge fan, but just started consolidating everything to MAME 32 once I got Raiden Fighters working.
I use Gens and ZSNES for every thing else pretty much. Need to get my hands on a NES Emulator for Recca.
