Agnostic Front - Victim in Pain
Misfits - homemade compilation
Anthrax - Among the Living
Extreme Noise Terror - A Holocaust in Your Head
Iggy and the Stooges - Raw Power
A Death Between Seasons/As the World Burns - split cassette
Sonic Youth - homemade compilation

V/A - It Came From the Northwest 7" EP (Sup, Pa. How you been, man?)

oh, and RIP, James Joseph Brown...

James Brown - Black Caesar OST
The JB's - Pass the Peas - The Best of the JB's

EDIT: Oops. I don't mean to keep hogging the top post spot. Sorry, gents.

"It Was Written" was terrible and while "Illmatic" is critically acclaimed, you need to check out "I Am..." for the pinnacle Nas record, everything he's done before and since has paled in comparison.

Boris - Absolutego
My friend was telling me about these guys. He said they're like the Japanese Melvins with longer jams. I'll definitely need to check these guys out.
Fantomas - Delirium Cordia
This is the only Fantomas album I haven't heard yet. How does it compare with Fantomas and Suspended Animation?

Yeah Boris are named after a Melvins track aparently and although i'm not overly familiar with Melvins, what i've heard does compare favourably. Very droney and drawn out but really atmospheric.

Not heard anything else by Fantomas but this is compelling. 75 mins and 1 track, almost like a soudtrack of a trip into hell, or through a horror movie. Wierd.

Mikami Kan - Hiraku yume nado arujanashi

I would rate this album 10/10, one of the real classics of Japanese rock music.

Yay! Kan Mikami is on the board!

Think I already mentioned his amazing trio with Keiji Haino and Moto Yoshizawa (unfortunately now deceased)--that double live set is still one of my favorite releases of all time.

Amazingly from Kan Mikami you can branch into the more stylized Tomokawa, or say fuck it and dig right back into the gruffer Vladimer Vissotski (who it is hard to say wasn't directly ripped off by Mikami, but really who cares, they are both legends!)

Was just listening to this one the other day:

Particularly the track Nothing to be Done 1:10 seconds in

Nice!

Yeah, Tomokawa is great too. I've seen him play in Tokyo before, his shows are very odd. Apparently he hasn't memorized the lyrics to any of his songs.

I'll have to check out Vladimer Vissotski.

The other album I bought this time in japan was "Dial Y wo mawase" by Yapoos:

Dunno if you're into them at all.

Actually, I prefer earlier Yapoos, Jun Togawa and Guernica stuff more than this one.

The new album is *really bad*. Truly. If this is the direction the band is going, they're done. Instrumentally repetitive and lazy, the drumming is ten times worse than the most worthless moment they ever recorded, the vocals... Oh God. Mike Patton has bad taste.

I doubt its a big leap, but I think a lot of people are just going to hear that russian folk sound, but really it is so gruff and threatening with a melodic structure just like Mikami, it is hard to imagine there was no influence of one on the other.

I'm expecting it soon. I want to be prepared. When it happens I'm gonna have to fall back on Finger Eleven, and Modest Mouse.

are you a deejay?
I used to deejay and most MD owners who are into hip hop like you and I mostly deejay or make beats.
I agree with the Ownerz, but Hip Hop is Dead is tee rash. Its got some hot Nas verses but his beat selection is bleh...Nastradamus was better than this beatwise.

I haven't been able to get into a Nas album since Illmatic. The guy instantly went form making one of the greatest rap albums of all time to just being another mediocre wannabe rich guy. He never should have changed his name from Nasty Nas or disassociated himself from Cormega.

Taken from Ipecac's website:
Dec. 26, 2006

It's that time of the year, we look back on the past year ( Isis, Melvins, Mouse on Mars, Peeping Tom, etc, etc) but more importantly look forward to the new year. 2007 promises to be a great one for all things Ipecac. Here is some of what you can expect in 2007 (in no particular order):
new releases from:
Hella
Dälek
Unsane
Goon Moon (Twiggy Ramirez & Chris Goss & Zach Hill)
Tomahawk
Eyvind Kang
Tom Hazelmyer & Dalek cd&dvd (a mix of music and animation from world renowned artist Dalek and muso Haze!)
Desert Sessions (more from Josh Homme)
some pretty big suprises
a couple of Dvds
a new website!!!!!!!
and of course more from the Melvins and Mike Patton.
It's like my top five assembled under a single label to create the best year possible for JoshF!

I wouldn't say instantly. Even Nas's harshest and most ardent Illmatic era fans(like myself) wouldn't say that. It really was a gradual thing. The thing that did his career in was his beat selection and overall album coordination. After It was Written, Nas lost his ability to put more than 5 hot songs on an album at the same time.

Nah I don't DJ but I do wish I had the equipment; but I get connections through my brother who lives in New Jersey. Several of his friends (one of them his roommate) does have a radio show which I think comes on Sunday or Monday nights. Though I live in Virginia, it's great as hell to hear some great beats and rhymes from people I have no clue who they are so I'm pretty much the envy of driving music.
