Storm Blade
I've been playing this nifty little shooter by Visco lately. It's like Sonic Wings, but actually a bit slicker in my opinion, and the characters are cooler. It's a nice precursor to the Vasara series. The first loop is pretty easy, I'm up to the section right before the last boss and will probably nail the 1cc in the next couple of days. I think I would recommend this game to beginners who like the Psikyo or Raiden Fighters style of gameplay, but find those games a bit too difficult. The only thing that sucks about it is the graphics glitch in MAME starting from the 3rd stage. It doesn't make the game unplayable, but it is a bit annoying.
So, uh, questions:
Who else likes Storm Blade? And who's your favorite character/ship?
How does the end-of-stage scroing work? Do you get the "Perfect" when you've killed every enemy? And what do the medal and medal + star icons stand for?
What price are you looking at for the PCB?

ROFL@StromBlade!
That was awesome BulletMagnet.
I downloaded the newest MAME (111) and all the trimmings, still no fix. What's strange about this is that in the attract mode the glitch doesn't show. I always assumed that most attract modes work similarly to the 'record input' function of MAME, where it loads and repeats the same level with the same movements in real time. If that was true though you would think the glitch would show up in the demo.
I wonder what's making that happen and if there is anyway to mess around and fix it just using MAME...? Or better yet, if other emulators are having the same issues with it?
I'll hit up that high score thread as soon as i 1cc it again. It's been a little while, but as was said it's a pretty easy game so it shouldn't take me long. Since it's possible to ramp the difficulty up on the game maybe there should be a seperate section below the full defaults score board for shmuppers who want more of a challenge.

Funny how that first stage boss is just like the second stage boss in Under Defeat
Just noticed that graphic glitch, it happened to me on the second stage(which is the first for the tomcat) with the zero but does it on the third with the tomcat. So from what i can tell its kinda random even though the stage order changes with the plane you use. Great game, alot of fun and plays well in Mame via my Svideo from my laptop to my 36" sony HD, cant wait to get a DVI cable cause my lap has an out put and TV has an input.

If you look closely at the glitching graphic, you'll see that it's actually the transparent clouds, quite discolored, from the stealth bomber stage. The glitch appears after you complete that stage, making it seem like the problem is along the lines of improper RAM clearing or allocation emulation.
Anyway, I think this game is actually very cool. I used to mess around with it a lot a couple years ago, and I appreciate its playability. In addition, though, I think it actually has a cool 1960's cold-war comic book style that I haven't seen done the same way anywhere else.
