After a decent PC gamepad

Post by Gungriffon Geona »

Yeah, I've begun to realise that I need a gamepad to play shmups (and alot of other games) with. though as it stands, finding one with dual analog, 6 top buttons and 4 shoulder buttons, and a "cross" D-pad isn't looking so good.

That pad there would be perfect if it weren't for how badly that the D-pad handles for me. feels really loose and like a badly designed hat-switch. Anyone know of a decent gamepad that would be good? (no, I don't want an arcade stick.)

my humble and rather unexperienced opinion would suggest to opt for the system comprising of a major console's controller (PS2, Saturn, whatev) and use it on PC through an USB adapter.

I think the standard controller of the Sega Saturn is still unrivalled (unless you need some sort of analog thumbstick), but that's just me, probably...

reason I want the dual analog setup is mostly because I want something I can play other games with. (Namely, the Descent series and Mechwarrior games.) besides, I hate how the response time on my Keyboard sucks. it makes Batrider nigh impossible because of how jerky the control can get.

If I can't find anything, I may just simply go with P990 if I can't find what I'm looking for. but I want an opinion here first.

This one by Logitech is a decent, cheap solution (the pad is a little looser and more elevated than a Saturn pad, but better than any next-gen console's pads): http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produ ... ENTID=8674

It doesn't have the six face buttons, but I think that feature is really quite rare for a dual analog pad - other than that Saitek, the only other that I can recall with that feature are the original xbox controllers. Either way, the only games that really require that many buttons are Capcom fighters which are available on every console known to man, so it's really a small loss.

EDIT: Oops, wrong link; I fixed it

Diaoh. other than that, you're right. I guess it doesn't matter too much then, though. I'll probably be able to do with 4 face buttons I guess. Still, if something had 6 face buttons and that D-Pad I'd be in heaven. :P Guess I'll find that logitech pad and grab it, since it's the best solution.

The Saitek P2500 is decent, although 2 of the face buttons are a bit smaller than the other four.
