Macross Plus

Post by PooshhMao »

I'm curious about other people's opinions of this game.
Personally I think it rocks severely, excellent variety of weapons (I love the Viper Phase-esque missile swarms) and it's very hard too.

no, arcade
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

For PooshhMao,

Aren't you referring to the actual arcade PCB version of Macross Plus?

The other two earlier Macross arcade Jamma PCBs are:

Banpresto's 1992 Super Dimensional Space Fortress Macross
and Macross II arcade Jamma PCBs respectively... ^_~

The Super Dimensional Space Fortress Macross PCB did get a USA-wide arcade release distribution as I've played it to my heart's content in 1993-1995 at my local arcades back in the day..... ^_~

To further add to the confusion, IIRC there was a game called "Macroos Plus" released for the PS1 in Japan, but it's not even a shooter.

As for the arcade version of Plus, it's been quite some time since I played it...IIRC it had a Rayforce-esque lock-on target-mawhozit, but I don't remember much more than that.

I meant the 1996 Banpresto coin-op yes. Save for a few tile zoom-induced glitches and possibly imperfect sound, it runs very well in MAME too.

The lock-on feature works differently - i'd say better - from those of the Ray games - Locking on to enemies only serves to improve accuracy it seems, as more often than not missiles'll home in on untargeted enemies too.

Macross games are a bit hit and miss (heh), but together with SFC Scrambled Valkyrie, this is among the best.
