Chaos Field - DC vs PS2
So, which version is the one to go for? Play-asia have the PS2 and DC versions in stock. Does one have more slowdown than the other? Does one have better audio? Does the DC one output RGB?
I don't really care about extras/replays/etc, I'd just like to know which one does the best rendition of the core game. The PS2 one is $10 cheaper, but I'll buy the DC one if it's overwhelmingly better.

pretty sure he's referring to the cube version. the dc version has huge amounts of slow down and a somewhat different aspect ratio compared to the cube. also i think the dc version is not saving any highscores.bloodflowers wrote:Which are you referring to?Kingbuzzo wrote:less slowdown, save support, and some sort of arrange mode with popcorn enemies iirc.
there is version out there that by default has either only the winglayer or the lockon attack enabled, so you have to manually configure the other. forgot which version it is.
have no idea how the ps2 version compares to the dc one but it can't be as troubled as the dc version.
hope this helps,

I have the DC and GC versions, and I've seen--not played--the PS2 version. My preference is for the GC version, but the control on the DC is a bit better. I think the use of progressive scan on the GC version gives it a visual edge over the DC and PS2 versions.
if you can only go with the DC or PS2 version, I would choose the cheaper of the two. I doubt you can go wrong with any one of the three versions--this is not a stellar title to begin with. Decent, but nothing to write home about in any sense of the phrase.

IMO, the arrange mode in the Cube version isn't that great. It adds a few more enemies, but the game is still basically a boss-rush fest. Besides which, I did not find the button placement on the Cube Digital Controller very comfortable for this game-personally, I'd go for the the DC port, and use the Green Goblin stick for it.

yes, the DC version supports RGB output.bloodflowers wrote:Does the DC one output RGB?
i have to agree that playing it with a stick is a lot more comfortable than a pad but the digital/gameboy controller works very fine by lack of a proper GC-stick. do realize it's a 5-button game and that felt a bit weird for me with a stick therefor it feels a bit more at home on a pad to me.dave4shmups wrote:I did not find the button placement on the Cube Digital Controller very comfortable for this game-personally, I'd go for the the DC port, and use the Green Goblin stick for it.

true, it's a boss-rush fest but if you're really into the game the "original mode" (as the arrange mode is called in the cube version) does add something to the gameplay with everything being slightly different. also, the remixed music for the original mode is very pretty (imo) and i find it a huge a pity that the remixed tracks didn't appear on an ost.
i do hope that this thread does not derail into a "it sucks/it rocks" shouting contest, there's enough of those about CF on this forum already!

You do realize that using the default button combinations for the Wing Layer and the Lock-On on the DC version are very intuitive and responsive. In fact, I found it a pain to switch to a pad where I was mapping these attacks to unique buttons.eretsua wrote: i have to agree that playing it with a stick is a lot more comfortable than a pad but the digital/gameboy controller works very fine by lack of a proper GC-stick. do realize it's a 5-button game and that felt a bit weird for me with a stick therefor it feels a bit more at home on a pad to me.

Some Gamecube joysticks from Hori and Nuby Tech... ^_~
Hori produced a two different versions of Japanese arcade stick controller for the Gamecube console under the name of Hori Cube Joystick Controller -- very similar to the earlier Hori GC Soul Calibur II Joystick, just different colored layout and overall colored scheme... ^_~eretsua wrote: i have to agree that playing it with a stick is a lot more comfortable than a pad but the digital/gameboy controller works very fine by lack of a proper GC-stick. do realize it's a 5-button game and that felt a bit weird for me with a stick therefor it feels a bit more at home on a pad to me.
And USA's Nuby Tech -- famous 3rd-party USA game console controller manufacturer has made a limited edition universal Soul Calibur II joystick that's compatible with the PS2, XBox and Gamecube consoles... ^_~
So yes, it's possible to play with GC joystick controller with GC version of Chaos Field shmup title..... ^_~
