Green Day's American Idiot

Post by LoneSage »

My dad bought it for my sis about a week ago, I’ve been listening to it a lot. I’ve never identified with a CD like this one. Track 4, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, is an amazing piece of music that I’ve never related to so much. Sure, it may be Green Day’s most emo CD evar, but hell, maybe I’m turning emo

Just wondered if there are any other fans of this CD.

I was off course kidding :)
I liked a few songs on Nimrod but the rest of their carrier has been kind off meh in my opinion.
Now Tool is a good band, I just wish the whole "A Perfect Circle" nonsence would stop so they can put out a new album

Aside from Dookie, a cd I listened to far too much when I was a kid, Greenday sucks complete and utter ass. Their latest cd sounds like it should be by Sum41 not a bunch of 30somethings.

i liked dookie back in the days.. otherwise i think green day are boring as hell.. this new CD is pretty ok tho, sure its very easy listening and catchy but why does that have to be something bad? its a good quick fix but next year i will have forgotten all about it...

i dont mind "a perfect circle" but i was actually standing in the recordstore the other day flipping thru the same old Tool CDs as always thinking (out loud unfortunateley  ) when the fuck are Tool gonna release something new, about goddamn time!!!

It's a pretty good CD. Way better than all the other bullshit being put out by everyone else.

I'm really digging Frances the Mute. Haven't heard At the Drive-In yet.

i'm too hardcore for Green Day! ... i used to listen to Dookie all the time back in the day. not that this is something for you to look into necessarily, but Pansy Division is hilarious (they toured with Green Day on their first high profile tour  ... i'm laughing at the parents who brought their kids blindly to the show and then blamed Green Day for the exposure, by the way)!

Good Riddance and that song they did for Austin Powers will always be good stuff (especially the AP track, most unique i have ever heard them).
I have no sig whatsoever.

If anybody is looking for a prog fix, pick up the new cd by RPWL - World Through my Eyes. It is a great piece of music and Ray Wilson sings on a track, Roses. Anyway, RPWL have come a long way since simply being a Pink Floyd tribute band; they now have awesome rock on their own merits.

Also, I am not sure how you can compare At the Drive In with Mars Volata or really any prog band. ATDI are more punkish in my opinion with 4 minute songs.

Exactly ATDI is totally different from Mars Volta. If you want an ATDI like band, try Sparta. Of course, listening to Sparta you are shown that ATDI took its formula to the edge and back. That was one of the main reasons that ATDI split into Sparta and Mars Volta. The Mars Volta guys were more experimental and realized that ATDI's style of music had been taken as far as it would go. The Sparta guys just didn't think so. By listening to their albums, I think you can tell who won this fight(Sparta sounds like typical stale emo crap).

yeah, but mars volta sounds like neverending whining and silly non sensical wackiness. their first ep was really good and they've gone downhill fast from there.

And as soon as you're done listening to in/casino/out, purchase and listen to Relationship Command, what I consider to be their best album.

Yeah that's prog rock. If you can't understand it, you just won't like it. It's kind of like those "experimental" ATDI songs that I assume you fast forwarded through. I miss ATDI too but I like the fact they didn't put the exact same album out over and over again. I want to remember ATDI at the peak of their talent not as a band that once was like Metallica.

You might want to try listening to "Source tags and Codes" by Trail of Dead and all of Thursday's albums for something like ATDI. Nothing compares to ATDI though.

Prog rock is a genre that cannot get any respect. And, it is a shame, because right now there are some prog bands that are really brimming with greatness. Aryeon and its off-shoot band Space One are a fine example. That is some of the best prog rock / metal ever created and nobody says a word about them. Porcupine Tree's new record comes out on the 26th and nobody will care about that either. The problem with prog is people associate it with meandering solos and the 4000000000001 .5677 projects various Dream Theater personnel work on. Though, I must say James LaBrie's new solo record is excellent.

Guh. Good Riddance went on the air when I was an upperclassman in high school, so needless to say I've heard it 5,000 times more than I'd have liked to. The worst part is that if it comes on the radio at a party or other social event, there's always at least one person that feels obligated to sing along.

yeah, see the reason why i am not spent on it is 1)don't listen to the radio, 2)didn't watch MTV when the video was on all the time and 3)i didn't (and won't) buy the cd. so, in conclusion, it's alright by me :D
I have no sig whatsoever.

I don't listen to the radio or watch MTV or have the CD, either. Whenever I hear the song it's always outside of my control. :x

id say glassjaw sound somewhat similar to ATDI, their album "worship and tribute" is brilliant nonetheless..

also i find "Rise against"sometimes have quite heavy ATDI punkrock influences.. also a good band :)

nothing wrong with "thursday" but i wouldnt say they sound like ATDI...

Prog can be great. I mean, King Crimson is fantastic, Pink Floyd is classic for a reason, Yes is a guilty pleasure, etc.

The Mars Volta is just the worst aspects of prog, dumbed down significantly.

How so? Because they have some actual songs in there?
