So, does anyone have any info as to when (if ever) this game will be emulated?

I'm curious about this since, unless I make it to a shmup meet, MAME will be the only way I have to try this game out-and try it out I would very much like to!

I don't have any "inside info" on this, but something tells me that this falls into the same category as pretty much any of the other non-emulated Cave games: if it ever gets emulated at all, it won't be anytime in the near future.
Thankfully, this can be remedied with a modded or import PS2, especially after the prices (hopefully) drop some thanks to the arrival of the PS3. And even if it doesn't drop it's still probably less pricey than the arcade version.

Why don't you just buy a JP PS2 with the game? You can get a used JP PS2 for under $100, the game is only about $50~55 used. So let's say $150 total. About the price of 3 new games. I don't understand how you think MAME "is the only way I have to try this game out".dave4shmups wrote:I'm curious about this since, unless I make it to a shmup meet, MAME will be the only way I have to try this game out-and try it out I would very much like to!![]()

As for it being emulated, don't hold your breath. I'd be surprised if it ever gets emulated.

Rumour has it that the Cave PGM driver was reaching a state good enough to make some people demand all progress be halted for the time being.
Bee Storm has different encryption but runs on the same hardware otherwise I believe, and while that isn't worthy to be labeled 'playable' just yet, it's not that far off.
One or two more years seems like a realistic prospect... hopefully they'll fix Raiden II and DX along the way too..

Get the PS2 one and some swap disks and enjoy.

As I understand it, the security was cracked and the PGM Driver for DDP:DOJ was added to Mame and then removed at Cave's request. As has been stated on this thread other PGM based games run perfectly well in MAME so it's possible that Cave's PGM games (DOJ/ESPgaluda/Ketsui) could be emulated in the future.
Having only played Galuda and Ketsui, I can't see how processor power would be a huge problem. You may need a slightly higher end comp to play due to the amount of bullets thrown around but both games are completely 2d and use very few special effects (the odd bit of sprite scaling at most). It's 3d games that Mame struggles with due to the Mame Dev's insistence on not using 3d graphics cards to assist the emulation.
My guess is that if/when Cave eventually go under we may finally see their PGM titles emulated. In any case Ketsui should be the priority for emulation since no home port was ever made.
But seriously, emulation is not the only way you will ever get to play this game. You can mod your PS2, use swap discs or simply buy an Asian model PS2 (they can be bought brand new for around £100-110 including shipping) right now and play ESPgaluda. I don't think this is an extortionate amount by anyone's standards, especially when you consider the huge range of quality titles available for PSone and PS2.
It really is a fantastic game, you only have to look at the amount of people that have contributed to the scores thread to see how many people are enjoying it and who also bought the game legitimately.

No, you're right. I should have said as much in my post. However, I think the Devs did succeed in cracking the encryption which is one of the major difficulties they have to overcome before a game could be added.GaijinPunch wrote:Are the currently emulated games cart-based, or solo board based? And about the DOJ driver... I think it did all of boot to a black screen, and that was it. Don't take that as the gospel though.

A used J-PS2 for under $100?? Where??
I have my US PS2 (slim) so I could do the swap thing, I suppose. I've been told that all it requires is taping down some tabs-maybe that just seems to easy/good to be true.

No offense to him, but that's not even complete, and he describes it as "wasted". Forget it, I'll have to go the Swap Magic route. If I'm gonna buy a used J-PS2, it would have to be complete and in better shape then that.twe wrote:GJP is selling a nice white one for $80:dave4shmups wrote: A used J-PS2 for under $100?? Where??

Oh well, Swap Magic is the cheapest option, and since it's evidently so easy to set up, it sounds like a good one. I'm fast running out of space for consoles, anyhow.

Instead of cave asking for their games to be removed from mame I wish they would instead ask them how to do a port. Or offer to pay them to do it. Because they certainly don't know how to, well at least, or have the desire most of the time.
As far as folks asking for games to be emulated..... If the folks doing the work are actually halting it b/c of this sole reason...... That's lame. Plus calling someone lame just b/c they want a game emulated is pretty lame itself. I don't think that's true.... I hope not anyway.
With that logic wouldn't they just port shitty games no one cars for b/c no one asks?
On the flip side I could see the annoyance of being asked for the impossible or the same thing over and over. Or whining and complaining from online know it alls saying to hurry up and they could do it themselves if blah blah blah is pretty foolish also.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

i am in the "buy the import and a used system" camp.
game is widely available, as is the method to play it. emulation seems wrong in this case. and besides Arrange is sweeter than words can describe (and also exclusive to ps2). take the plunge dave. with everything else available on ps2, you certainly won't regret the cost of a jp system.

Well, emulator programmers are a special bunch. I've never read anything written by one that didn't have issues. Then again, it's usually only until they're driven to near insanity that they start writing stuff. Oh, well. It's free software. I enjoy it from time to time.As far as folks asking for games to be emulated..... If the folks doing the work are actually halting it b/c of this sole reason...... That's lame.
Dave: Just buy it. It's pretty much the best arcade to home port of last generation. Very accurate, and has tons of extras.

Cave asked MAME to remove the DDP3 skeleton driver. The game is not dumped, only the program ROM. It was just added as a place holder.
Cave PGM single boards contain a microcontroller (which most likely is encrypted) that controls the bullet patterns.
Cave asks MAME to remove games that are too new. Now if Cave was totally against emulation why do we have Donpachi, Guwange etc. in MAME ?
Buy the PCB or a PS2, Espgaluda won't be emulated for years to come.
