NAOMI GD-ROM hardware & Shmups are a perfect match!

Post by Maikeru_Rocks »

:D What up fellow gamers new to the site!
How come developer Cave never use the NAOMI GD-ROM
hareware. I always ask myself the question. Shoot'em ups
and the NAOMI GD-ROM always provide the best shmups.
Take Ikaruga, Chaos Field, Shikigami no Shiro II, Psyvariar 2: The Will to Fabricate and Border Down all arcade-to-Dreamcast
perfect. Then you have Zero Gunner 2 and Gigawing 2 running
on the normal NAOMI cartridge both Dreamcast-perfected. Only
G.rev and Milestone continue using the Dreamcast hardware. Where's developers like Raizing(MIA) at?. I love playing shmups
it's the ultiimate high. I wish developer Takumi will announce a sequel to CP System II/Dreamcast-port MARS MATRIX(THE BEST 2D SHOOTER EVER MADE i own the import). Mars Martix 2 running on the NAOMI GD-ROM with 2D/3D graphics. I'll keep crossing my fingers for this one!

Thread reopened after re-thinking situation a bit per feedback from fellow forum members. Treat our newcomer with respect.

And you better believe I'd like to see Cave make some Naomi games. It would at least make home ports of their games a little more likely.

Hi Maikeru! :)

I agree Naomi still could be used for lot's of new games without them looking dated. As far as I know Cave innitially registered as a developer for the Naomi hardware but never did anything with it :(.
Naomi is also relatively cheap and esay to use and very homeport friendly (especialy DC ofcourse...(but PS2 too)).
I really don't see THAT much advantage with the new arcade systems. Graphically only marginally better and much more expensive...

NAOMI still has some life in it and hopefully some game makers will realise that.

The best thing the Type X has right now is Raiden III. Naomi still got something left in it, if they are still making arcade games for the Naomi in 2005, it still has life left.

I just disagree with the *always* part. There are plenty of excellent shooters outside the DC, despite what fans would have you believe.

Naomi is a good choice, Its not that Cave stuff really goes beyond what Naomi is capable of.

While I don't even care for most of the shmups on the NAOMI hardware (i LOVE ikaruga, though) i think it's great. i definately wanna see more games using it, and hope we'll get something really great this year.

odd that Cave would just sign up and then sit on it like that. Maybe some sort of issues with sega or somethng.

Do they still make Naomi cartridge games, or just gd rom? Just curious. I've been thinking of buying one for awhile- so expensive.

Thanks. Closing threads like this is an indication of absolutely nothing better to do.

never knew cave signed up for naomi, but i wasnt heavily into shooters back when the naomi came out. if they did, looks like they might be pulling the same thing with type x, at least for now.

wouldnt have minded if they did naomi stuff, other than for the price of a naomi hardware set. course if it led to easy dc ports for another company to pick up (although if it was easy enough maybe theyd do it themselves), thatd cancel that disadvantage out (assuming i ever hack up my dc for my cab). otherwise gd roms prices look like they drop a lot lower than pcbs, in the long run i guess itd be cheaper to have a naomi gd set.

Speaking of Naomi, are there any shooters that use NAOMI-2 hardware?

Can you close this thread again? There are many other "hardware/console wars" threads floating around, at least they have more coherent trolling in them. Has this become an hardware fanboys forum (pretty rhetoric question...)? The quality has gone down the drain, of late.

I agree, sometimes a thread gets started and ends going off topic completely. There is even the icon "new topic" inside each thread.

Cave just want royalties all to themselves. The only system they supported was CPS2 and PGM, it may have been a bad experience both times. Capcom releasing only 30 Progears was probably it .. Or Beestorm. Can't say I blame them after those 2 episodes.

Why? So I can have more people complain that I closed it and beg me to reopen it again? Well, seeing as how Maikeru never came back to post in his thread after I told him it was reopened I might as well. And there were only 30 cabs with Progear pcbs when it was released?
