Bullet Pattern Simulator

Post by Shalashaska »

This is a cool little program I found the other day that lets you 'practice' against different bullet patterns from various shmups. I'll be very surprised if this hasn't been posted before but my search didn't turn anything up so my apologies if it's old news.

http://www.geocities.jp/abashi99/a2_game.htm

It's the link right under the pics of the patterns.

I can't read Japanese or whatever it's written in but the first part of the menu goes like this:
- Level Select (which pattern)
- Rank or Difficulty (this increases during the game anyway if you do well)
- Bomb and Life settings
- Not sure
- Invincibility
- Not sure on the rest, something about slowing the game or ship down

You control your ship with the arrow keys and the Z key bombs. Esc exits and spacebar selects (Z also selects and spacebar also bombs).

Here are some patterns I recognized (or thought so anyway) but please correct me if I am wrong and add to the list.

7 - DDP St3 Boss
15 - DOJ Single Hibachi? (difference between 15 and 55 pattern wise?)
21 - DOJ Dual Hibachi
34 - DOJ Triple Hibachi?
42 - Doom 1st pattern? (never played Ketsui so not sure)
43 - Doom final pattern
48 - ESPGaluda St4 mid-boss? (haven't played Galuda in a while)
49 - ESPGaluda Boss 3 final pattern
50 - ESPGaluda Boss 2 first pattern
51 - ESPGaluda Boss 2 2nd pattern
52 - ESPGaluda Boss 2 final pattern
53 - ESPGaluda Boss 5-1
54 - ESPGaluda Boss 5-1 final pattern
55 - DOJ Single Hibachi?
56 - ESPGaluda Boss 5-2 final form, final pattern
57 - Mushi Boss 4 Ultra
58 - Mushi Boss 4 Ultra final pattern? (never played this far in Ultra)
59 - Mushi Boss 1 Ultra
60 - Mushi Boss 1 Ultra final pattern
61 - Mushi Aki ridiculous pattern
62 - Mushi Boss 2 Ultra
63 - Mushi Boss 2 Ultra final pattern
64 - Mushi Aki
65 - Mushi Aki final pattern

Level 34 has me intrigued because the bullets look like those from Hibachi's final pattern in DDP but I've never seen/heard of a triple Hibachi head fight in DOJ. Anybody know?

This is old, but still really awesome.

This is the same site which has Yalkinashoot and 373-STG. All three of them rule ass.
The radio said, "No, John. You are the demons."
And then, John was a zombie.

Very nice program! I can't tell, but I don't think its using bulletML for the patterns, which would suck since I'd like to drop in other known patterns.

sdmkun, has pretty much been the standard in this respect, and has a nice library of bulletML patterns.

Hold down X to slow your ship. Was wishing for the same thing and just now figured it out.

Once, during one of the patterns with the bouncing bullets, I had the level at 99 and invincibility turned on. For some reason I started seeing medium-sized blue bullets, which eventually occupied the entire screen, and I was left with a medium-sized field of barely-moving said bullets.

Fucked up!

Early this morning I was playing my old install of Siroi Danmakukun (1.5.7), got 82 seconds on Normal! It wasn't like I was playing for hours, either.

Unfortunately the replay doesn't seem to work, even though I saved it...

There is a program called bullet psychotic symphony (or something resembling that) that makes bullet patterns to dodge using audio files from your computer. I never got it working even though I put a compatible audio type in the proper folder. Looked interesting. Sorry, no link.

Anyone have a clue on how replays work in this program? I can't figure out how to view any.

Should be the bottom option (there's also an option to change the language to English). But first you have to save a replay; press 0-9 after a run to save it to that spot. Of course, you can import replays as well.

http://www.geocities.jp/abashi99/a2_game.htm For the second game in this link? I can't find any options like that. :-/

Edit - I figured it out, you just hold R while pressing the z button or whatever button it is to start the game.

EDIT: http://shinh.skr.jp/bpo/

Holy crap, this thing is FUN. converting some stuff to OGG to use is easy enough. plus, I already had a few tracks that worked out anyway. :P

You got it working? Did you have to use music in the OGG format? In the readme it said you could use mp3's. How did you convert the music to OGG?

This is a very interesting program. I had to convert my mp3's to ogg and put them in the music directory.

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Is there a particular program you used to convert them into OGG?

All i could find was some crappy 10 conversion trial. :x

I say if you have free time and are a programmer you should be making freeware to help people. There are 50 billion programs that all do the same thing for $19.99 and nobody is going to notice your po-dunk application.

Holy crap BPO is awesome. And the best part is that it reads in MOD files no problem.

It'd be nice if this thing had a demonstration mode that taught you how to navigate the patterns. :(
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Apparently you guys aren't very good at searching for conversion stuff. :P
You need the Lame Encoder to read MP3s, but that's actually included on the site as a seperate download IIRC.
Or you could use DB PowerAmp, which works for converting stuff enev after it's trial expires. (I've been using it mostly because right clicking on the audio file and selecting "convert to" is much easier than opening Audacity, but it's got a 128kbs limit on converting to MP3 once the trial expires.)

Blade: it does. set the control mode from human to CPU.

As a question, would you guys mind if I hosted a few OGGs that I found make some amazing results? it won't be anything tht's not freely available though, to keep piracy crap from being an issue. :P

Maybe that explains why my replay didn't work. I'd better get the newer version, anyhow.

Has anybody had any trouble getting replays for sdmkun to work properly? I seem to save replays and then when going to look them over I get replays that are cut off, or replays of different runs altogether, most of the time runs I never had. Appreciate any advice.
