IS: Internal Section CD swaping... HELP!

Post by Danny »

OK guys I really need your help!

I know only about 0.1% of the board actualy play this game but I need help desprately because this is driving me nuts!

OK here is the question...

How the hell do you put your own music CD's in the change disc mode?

Seriously I first I thought it was my emu messing up then I tried this thing on a modded PS2 with my offical IS disc and still it freezes.

I know this is basicly a shot in the dark but if there anyone here that knows about the CD swaping on this game PLEASE I BEG YOU TELL ME HOW IT'S DONE!

Thanks in advance!

Moving to Shmups Chat (IS meets the criteria).

I think (not sure) you need to play it on an original PS1 to use the custom soundtrack feature in Internal Section (the non-slimline PS2's different eject notification mechanism, especially on modded systems, may be to blame with screwing it up). You're not alone, I do recall some forum members in the past having problems getting that feature to work using a PS2.

I can only confirm that the Internal Section custom soundtrack feature works 100% fine on my original model unmodded Japanese PS1 (and the background colors in the shmup actually change in realtime to your music beat... nice feature)

I can also confirm that Squaresoft's iS shmup game does work with a modded USA Bios region PSX console for the "ambinent mode" to work properly...will work with a plain-vanilla USA Bios PSX console with the Super Game Convertor (or aka "Gold Finger" import PSX boot device) as well..... ^_~

The actual Internal Section PSX import CD-Rom game disc weighs in at a paltry 206MB used out of a 650MB based PSX CD-Rom disc format and is presented in 640 x 480 resolution mode with 60 frames per seconds framerate (fps) + in 16-bit graphics mode. (Very few PSX game titles were made that took advantage of 640 x 480 res with 60 fps + 24-bit graphics mode...) ^_~

For what it's worth, I confirm that IS cd swapping works well also on my modified PAL Playstation. I'm sorry I can't help you a lot more, Danny.

For Turrican,

You might remember the old LucasArts released PSX Star Wars game titles like "Star Wars: Masters of Kerasi", etc. that were presented in 640 x 480 res and 24-bit graphics mode.

my original IS disc (as well as any backup i've downloaded) refuses to boot up on my modded chuncky pal ps2. it gets to the general health warning and then it hangs, anyone know whats up with that?

the disc is mint and plays fine on the unmodded ntsc-j ps2 slimline of a friend.

Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi, you mean? I'm looking about, and while I wouldn't be surprised if those stats are correct (looking at this picture), I can't find any place that lists it as running at those specs...hmm

eretsua, I have the same results with my modded PAL PS2 :( Looks like some sort of anti-mod protection (I heard about it somewhere)

Well, if it is really anti-mod potection that freezes ps2, it may be cured by some sort of cheat program, like Action Replay or something... Boot disk for PSX may help also, I think there was several boot disk images on www.megagames.com and there was an option for disabling anti-mod protecion when loading game.

In other hand, why the game freezes up AFTER loading screens, right before music must start playing? Anti-mod protection shouldn`t let load game at all. I afraid there is some sort of incompatibility between japanese ps2 and PAL. Or this incompatibility was caused by some specific functionality of modchip ?

Anyway, I was given up long time ago, and now I`m playing this game using ePSXe emulator....

first of all thats for all your replies!

Secondly I have a modded PAL PSX not PS2, my bad!

I wanna know why the hell coud'nt they make this game easier to change the cd for? Seriously I've tried Emu and everything and still I get nothing.

The game does not freeze it just does not load the CD when I replace it on the track selection screen. (am I supposed to replace the CD on that screen or am I supposed to press a speical button or what?)

again thanks for all your help!

p.s: if it is any help I can play the normal game just fine I just can't use any other CD in ambient mode which is annoying.

Ok, Danny, let's see... At the menu screen, select "ambient1" - you will be brought to that screen you linked. Don't swap the cd yet, just select "OK!".

The game will begin - pause it with the start button, and you'll see a "CD" option on the bottom of the menu. Select it, open your PS1, insert some good Bob Dylan, close Ps lid, exit from pause. Now it should work without problem.

Edit: more info here, from the usual suspects:

THANK YOU TURRICAN!!

Finaly I can now play CD's on IS and I owe it to you man. (it was the "insert CD during gameplay" thing that got me!) Although I would like to point out that this does not work with all CD's! I think this might be due to some copy protection or some computer code on the CD.

I just in some Chemical Brothers and Queens of the Stone Age and... WOW!

Anyway I am off to go play the game again so thanks again!

Always a pleasure to be of help :)

It worked with all the cds I tried on it - are you using factory-pressed albums or some compilations you burned by yourself?

Factory burned mate. For some reason it would not load my "Forever Faithless" and "Club Nation" CD's even though they work fine on my computer.

Guys.

I have a NTSC US PSX (big one) with the old-school mod-chip so if you put in a anti-modded import in my PSX, you'll get the error message.

Is this game has this problem or it doesn't?

I also have a really old, big US PSX with one of the first mod chips installed and I can play this game with no problems. Haven't yet tried the music CD-swapping, though.

If you are able to try it for me then I would be very happy.

OK, Just tried it out and yes, I can CD-swap on my old modded US PSX without problems. I tried a few different CDs and they all played fine.

It's a nice little feature - I think it has rekindled my interest in this game a bit!

(I do wish you could leave the CD in when your game ends though - it's a shame to have to swap back to the game disc for the menus to load again.)
