Not sure its practical to bring a while Naomi GDRom rig down... They are a pain in the arse... It is doable though if people are keen.

Ibara BL *needs* 4 buttons, that might be a consideration (4th button controls bullet type, needed to keep rank low at the bosses).

Souky, Mars M, Gigawing, etc etc are all fine hori-verts and we could replace Demolish Fist or something shit.

From the Jamma; in my astro button 4 was wired to the kick but the neo-geo wire was in place and worked fine when I swapped it over.

Yep, so that counts those 2 out.

We don't need many titles for the Meet (based on previous experience). We most likely need ESP2, Ketsui, Mush, Batrider and perhaps Brave Blade & Cyvern. Its still a tall order to house 2 of those titles in decent vert cabs though.

Both are doable... If you don;t have a 4 button cab and a willing engineer for Ibara BL though we should certainly rule that out.

Naomi is possible, its just a shitty system to be honest... Can be done but I would only bring it if people were keen on a particular game (Trizeal anyone zzzzzzzzzzzzz)...

Espgaluda 2 is great; One thing, theres lots of small dodging required which is a whole pile of fun but might be a tricky one on those "fudgy" sticks they used to have... Did you get Jap sticks installed?

Well I was talking to the one and only chunkis on sunday about new sticks for Goodge St. Apparently the fighter players' plan is to use the money from Neoempire Tournaments to buy new sanwas for the arcade and install them, then buy a couple of candy cabs.
For now, the sticks on the left sides of the sit-down vert cab and the Mush cab are fine in my view (I had Bob improve them).
The rest of the sticks in vert cabs are horrible and I've gotta get on Bob's case.

Sticks and buttons available from the UK here:
http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/sanwaparts.htm
There's really no excuse for an arcade operator in London to have degrading equipment, especially if tournaments and stuff happen on a regular basis.

The cost is negligable... We will put several hundred pounds in; maybe we can encourage a couple of sticks from them.

ill6 - You don't happen to have a Raiden DX PCB do you? Or jpj? Or anyone else within striking distance of London?
- A Mills DX run is worth watching!
I'll get onto masamune & Bob and see if the Casino DX board can be found...

Hi guys,

I am living in Bedford in the UK now, only about 50 miles north of London. I would like to attend some shmup meet so let me know when the next one is and how to get there.

My friend Danny would like to come as well :)

I only have a few MVS games like Blazing star and Strikers 1945 plus but I would bring them down. I got the first 4 slugs as well if thats of any interest.

LMK.. cheers.

Richie.

neorichieb1971 - I think we're looking at the weekend of the 24th, 25th Feb.

As for titles, we are only looking for ESP2 from ill6 and Raiden DX....Will - Can you still get your hands on a DX board? Or was it one that you missed on Ebay? Its got a Sondtrack, so you should buy it :!:

LOL we know where to get sticks and buttons from.

exellent com
himura
coinopexpress
gremlin

its just a matter of the arcade owner understanding why we want flimsy japanese sticks and buttons instead of the long life parts that are already in there.

Even though most games in London arcades have shite controls you Londoners are still lucky - we used to have an SF3:3S in Nottingham which had control problems after a heavy session. The bonehead arcade owners stuck the game in a nasty Tekken 5 cab, with those shitty black bat joysticks that trap the skin on your hands. Of course T5 is a 4 button game, so the engineers drilled holes and stuck in 2 extra buttons for each side but they weren't properly aligned, it was pretty gash. Then a few months later they let the suicide battery die and 3S was no more.

Now the only game local people play is SuperGhey SFA3, which also has control problems. After some time having knackered sticks they finally swapped one side out for a Seimitsu LS32, surely the finest stick known to man. Sadly it's not such a durable stick, and now after a few weeks of mashing from the local mongs it's shafted - they should have gone for a sanwa really. And now we've learned Nottingham's only ok arcade will be under new managment after Christmas and there's a strong possibility they'll ditch all the games and become a fruit machinists paradise

You guys should count your lucky stars you have ONE decent arcade in the local vicinity at all, knackered controls or otherwise. It is already too late up here, everything that was an arcade of any real note is either dead or a fruitmachine hall, and anything that is still up and calling themselves an 'arcade' is usually filled with gun and racing games.

On top of that, the only other arcade with any hope outside London; the Southampton arcade, just closed...suddenly.
Yep, its the same the World Over (outside the Far East). I've popped my head in seaside arcades from Great Yarmouth to Knokke in Belgium to Holland....you name it, there's just 4minute per credit Driving, FPS, Virtua, Dance Dance and that's it. To be honest, its been like that for over 10 years.
So we're trying to mould Casino Arcade to our tastes while its still there.

This can be applied to so many places now sadly

That is a big shame :(
We still have one place with arcades left in Manchester, but people only go to play 3rd Strike there, but it is still something.

It's true I suppose, i have it better than most; I work 5 minutes away from the arcade and I often spend 40 minutes playing at lunch time, sometimes I even have a really fun time playing against the local fighting game fans, but of course there are no shmups. It's really frustrating though as i remember how good the local arcades used to be, and I've offered to put games in but they were totally uninterested, the fools.

What about the Arcadia arcade in the Isle of Wight? They had a quite good selection of games last time I looked on theri website, a nice mixture of ancient and modern stuff.

Latest news from Italy:
Fontaz has already booked his flight (23 to 25) and I'm going to book too. It's almost sure that my girlfriend will be with me from 23 to 26! No news from other italians at the moment, they are deciding atm.
About the rooms (I'm talking to PLSM): I'll be in a double room with the girl, but you and the mighty HINATAFAN can stay with the other italians to save some money (I guess it's possible to use a room for 3/4/5 guys). Now all we need are other italians to come, I'll keep you posted!

This is actually my first post here but I've been hanging around at super-play for some time now -- I'm a shmup enthusiast as well (cheers PLASMO, LUN, rj and all others who I know from super-play!). I'd like to join you guys in London if you let me. :) I'd be bringing my wife and we'd probably stay the week before or after to do some sightseeing around the city.

First post edited with the new meet dates (23rd to 25th Feb).

Anyone know of any decent online maps for London, for us non-London residents that might want some reference for getting around? ^_-

Also, could have had a Pink Sweets kit. ;_; There was one on YAJ this morning, and I had my eye on it hoping that the board wouldn't be spotted and the seller would drop his price when relisting (like what happened when I scored my Ibara kit) but someone grabbed it for the buyitnow price of 104,000Y (£450). Back to waiting patiently, then. ;_;
