I would like to try TATE
just wondering what type of monitors or tvs you people use for this mode, and has anyone had problems in doing so (broken TVs, stuff like that)
Mushihimesama and espgaluda do look a lot better, i mean i have about 25 decent shooters for consoles but ive never played tate before.

Unplug your TV, wait a minute then turn it to its side, wait another minute, then plug it in again. Then turn it on. If the colors are ok then you are good to go. If they aren't, then it can't be used for tate. Just unplug it, turn it back, wait another minute and plug it in again. I have never damaged a TV that way, and I've done it with a couple.DBH87 wrote:just wondering what type of monitors or tvs you people use for this mode, and has anyone had problems in doing so (broken TVs, stuff like that)

More like wait 5 to 15 minutes for each step. The TV will most likely need proper time to degauss and then resettle.Ceph wrote:Unplug your TV, wait a minute then turn it to its side, wait another minute, then plug it in again.

I just use an old Philips 28-inch CRT. I turn it off (at the front, not the plug), wait 5-10 mins and then flip it on it's side. As soon as I flip it over I turn it on and the colours are fine. If your tv works on it's side then it'll be the best thing for shmupping. Some games literally look twice as good in tate as they do in yoko.

This is true. I used to tate my TV alot, which caused one of my speakers to malfunction. Now I have to fool around with it in order to hear out of both speakers.FrederikJurk wrote:The problem isn´t so much the tube itself but the casing where it´s built into - the electronic parts and the tube aren´t meant to be turned on its side, so there might be the risk of parts inside the TV to be damaged.

It degausses as you turn it on. If the TV has been on for a while, in some cases you can turn it off, rotate it, then turn it on again immediately.RotateMe wrote:When does it degauss? During it is unplugged? So I have to wait with the TV unplugged on the side. Why do I have to wait before I turn it to side. I never got good colors with my TV turned on side but I didn't wait, I just turned it off and rotated it.
I use a large-ish TV (27" or so?) and I've managed to cause some minor damage - there are some vertical lines running down the left side of the screen. It's only visible against a white screen, but it sucks anyway. In my case it's a small price to pay, though.
The TV is a Loewe Calida 5072. Coincidentally, on its side the screen faces up at the perfect angle...

I'd like to pose an additional question:
A friend of mine has recently purchased a plasma set, and is planning to modify the wall mount so it can be rotated 90 degrees for tate shmupping whenever necessary.
Is rotating a plasma safe at all, especially in this fashion? Is there danger of overheating due to poor ventilation (the exhaust fan is on the top section of the set), or possible damage to the phosphours inside?

As much as rotating one of those big plasma monsters sounds like a dream come true, I think it would actually be too big for you to focus on all the bullets...

I work at a university and all the plasma screens are in tate mode, these are used to display class times and events and are on 12 hours a day with no problems.
The plasma screens are made by Fujitsa and are 42 inch.
