Blasphemy! R-Type Final is currently one of my favs, & certainly does NOT feel like a homebrew game. I think it's rather well done.Knuckles-chaotix wrote:R-type Final feels like a bodgy homebrew game!

As much as I hate to say it, but there are homebrew games with better production value than it has. (EtherVapor comes to mind.)FRO wrote:Blasphemy! XDR (Mega Drive)
I got this game for FREE. thats about what its worth. I like alot of "lesser" shooties but this title just left a bad taste in me mouth. I guess if it were a NES game I might find it more tolerable but for Mega Drive I would expect a smidgen more. Go ahead dl it and experience the torture.

WORST SHMUP DEBATE
Worst shmup ever played? you shmupers posting on this thread are way SAD
beyond belief. A game is just a game at the end of day, or have you shmupers failed to realise that instead of making non constructive debates about a useless subject that doesnt benefit any of us.
So less of the shit subject talk and post a thread about HOW we shumpers can progress our skills more progressively than just pure repetitive play alone. WHAT FOODS, OR SUPPLEMENTS, OR EXERCISES, OR DRUGS CAN MAKE US BETTER SHMUPERS BY FAR?

Well yeah, putting it on a Model III would be retarded, though there was a decent clone of Nintendo's Space Firebird for the Model III.Alpolio wrote:OMG! Your talking about the CoCo. For a while there, I thought that you were talking about Radio Shack's old business line of Z80 machines. I kept thinking, "WTF? Why would anyone try to do that???" lol!doctorx0079 wrote:Exactly. Think bad 2600 game and you have the picture. I would like to point out here that there were many good games for the TRS-80 Color Computer. Sadly this was not one of them.Alpolio wrote: Damn. Just thinking about how that would play on a TRS-80 makes my brain hurt.
Nevertheless, CoCo Silpheed is total cack. They took the old 2D PC game and tried to water it down to Atari 2600 level. Lousy graphics, almost no sound, and the gameplay is terminally boring and repetitive. It was like they just slapped something together. I wish they had consulted Steve Bjork. Oh well.

I also do some push-ups then some Ab workouts most mornings.Pirate1019 wrote:Wel I start a day with a healthy number of pushups and then lead into ankle exercises...Mills wrote:WHAT FOODS, OR SUPPLEMENTS, OR EXERCISES, OR DRUGS CAN MAKE US BETTER SHMUPERS BY FAR?
I did great so much water and milk that I threw up when I was little.
Re: WORST SHMUP DEBATE
If you do them really hard you should take at least a 48-hours break. The muscles need this much time to compensate the training impulse. You gain after the training, not while doing it. The workout is simply the impulse. *end of derailing*Dale wrote:I also do some push-ups then some Ab workouts most mornings.Pirate1019 wrote:Wel I start a day with a healthy number of pushups and then lead into ankle exercises...Mills wrote:WHAT FOODS, OR SUPPLEMENTS, OR EXERCISES, OR DRUGS CAN MAKE US BETTER SHMUPERS BY FAR?

Heh, I knew that. Running Cross Country they beat it into you. Running or working out breaks muscle down and the muscle builds itself up again plus some more to compensate for if you push your limits again.
Also, I was kidding, on the offchance you didn't notice that. Just making sure.
I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I have played a lot of bombs on MAME. With over 200 files there are bound to be some terrible ones.

Sorry thought you were serious.
I probaly don't take the breaks I should thanks for the advice guys.
Back on topic: I tried D-Force which blew but not as much as I thought it would of course I'm easy to please. I don't care much for SectionZ even though I like most other Capcom Shmups.

The worst SHMUP that was released as a somewhat serious gaming offering (I'm not going to tear down any college student's shareware Galaga clone, even though I've never played one I especially liked) which I have had the pleasure of playing was...
TETSUO
GAY
DEN
...oh god, that was bad.
It's a Philips CD-i title. Wipe from your mind the knowledge that this system had a 15.5 MHz 68000 knockoff (actually, a kind of limited torn down crappy one, the CPU eqiuvalent of the OPLL found in the MSX 2+ and the Sega Mark III FM Sound unit), CD-ROM storage capacity, and at least 1.5 MB of RAM.
Also, you should know that I actually like the original two Zelda games. They're not playable (or easily controlled), but I like them. Graphics, sound, not too bad stuff. In other words, I'm easily pleased, right?
No, no, no. Tetsuo GAYden (yes, the announcer mispronounces it) has tiny, fly-like sprites, and only a few. It also plays poorly - nothing resembling a level structure, just waves of enemies. Most of the CD-ROM seems to be squandered on an optional (ugly) 3D rendered background.
Scoring? "SCORE INCREEEES" or "SCORE DECREEES." Yes, you only get points when the wave is over. But hey, at least you get to hear that idiot announcer again.
I imagine the shooter I've heard about that exists for the Memorex VIS is better than this pile of shit.
It's been a while since I played it, and I didn't play it long.
If you didn't like my short review (and wanted to see pictures anyway), you can optionally read the review here. Note to self, next time you see the asshole who wrote that page, poke both their eyes out as they obviously no longer have a need for them. Also for their disservice to humanity in promoting the game.
Just for you, I sell this game for only $100! But I will not accept New Zealand dollars, sorry.
(Actually, I think I want to keep it just for the camp factor.)

And exactly what's wrong with RTF's production values? That EtherVapor must be one hell of a homebrew to rival RTF's graphic designs, music, sounds, weapons, ships, stage designs, packaging, extras... I checked out EtherVapor on YouTube but wasn't convinced (explosions and homing lasers looked nice though). Gotta install the trial version tonight.Gungriffon Geona wrote:R-type Final ...

I actively forget crappy games, so I can't list the worst shmups I've played. Probably some 8-bit shit. One game, however, cannot be forgotten because it's so lame that it's in fact an insult towards the whole genre. It's already been mentioned, but just to keep sure that you know to avoid it:
Strike Force Hydra (GBA) = the thing that should not be

D-FORCE (SNES)
What sounded like a great concept (vertical shmup where you could descend/ascend to some degree) just didn't get executed properly.
The descend gimmick came off horribly (3 distinct 'background' planes that you toggled with the shoulder triggers) and the game itself played worse than many of the earliest 8-bit shooters.
Horrible, horrible game. What a major disappointment.

Re: ,,
It is quite possibly one of the best 3D homebrew shooters I've played ever. most games using 3D graphics feel sloppy and sluggish, but EtherVapor plays like it was designed by pros. just going through the first 2 missions shows some serious quality behind the game's mechanics. (the multi-lock section was brilliant, as was the second boss.) I honmestly can't wait to see the finished product of it.Shocky wrote:And exactly what's wrong with RTF's production values? As much as I like R-Type though, after finally getting all 101 ships I have absolutely no reason to go back to the game. it did feel lack-luster, but me and my obsession for beating games fully was the only reason I got everything. It's a fun game, but not for the ammount of times I played the trudging first 4 levels. (albeit 3.5 was epic, but I'm not talking about that one.) I'll probably never go back to it, despite how much I loved playing the Helios ship.
