On a Ryuichi Sakamoto kick from Thousand Knives. Heard:

B-2 Unit -- similar, but colder. This stuff reminds me of Mega Drive music. "Riot in Lagos" could easily be in Streets of Rage or a Phantasy Star IV industrial-dungeon theme.
04 -- recent piano arrangements of older songs ("Riot in Lagos" makes an appearance, but doesn't transfer well). The feel of the album is nearly ruined by some terrible vocals near the end. Poor guy can't sing.

And:
Ricardo Villalobos - Alcachofa

Fairyland - The Fall of an Empire

The CD FINALLY came in the mail from Amazon, it took them over 2 months to source it :p But what a great album!

Ordered Yu Heng's 2006 real 創作集 from some shady-looking Malaysian site late last night, since it's only been released in Malaysia so far so yesasia doesn't have it.

The last three thrash albums I've heard have kicked my interest up a few notches:

Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death
Artillery - Terror Squad
Razor - Evil Invaders -- "Cross Me Fool"!
Akufen - My Way
Ricardo Villalobos - Thé au Harem d'Archimède

I've always loved Sigh, but I've really been caning their entire discography lately, almost non-stop. It would surely take a person with a black, atrophied heart to dislike them. :P

Aye, that's a wonderful piece. Really playful and ambitious - took me a while to get into the newer stuff, to be honest, because I was on a Hail Horror Hail/Scenario IV kick for years! Check out Hangman's Hymn when it's released, mate. The clip of the title track is fantastic.

Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me

this is pretty nice pop

but I can see how the sloppiness could turn people off of it

Meshuggah - Nothing (re-release) -- Completely rerecorded? Very weird effect having already digested the original. There seems to be much more murky depth to it, less exhausting.
Esoteric - The Pernicious Enigma

A Minor Forest - Flemish Altruism (Constituent Parts 1993-1996) -- Enjoyed this album, but dropped it too fast to fully appreciate. Things like this need the time they deserve (all 70+ minutes). Great!
Nico - Chelsea Girl
Venetian Snares - Rossz ...
Immolation - Here in After / Failure for Gods

I have Tortoise's latest 3-disc compilation on its way to me... woohoo.

Anyone here have a rateyourmusic account? Curious.

Yeah they are definitely a band you need to concentrate on to fully appreciate. I think I like their other full length "Inindependence" even more. Check it out if you haven't already.

Currently listening to:

Jesu - "Silver E.P."
the new Max Richter L.P.
Kraftwerk - "Computer World"

I heard the new Isis album over Thanksgiving holiday thanks to my little brother. Man did it ever suck, oh well.

Evoken - Antithesis of Light -- quality doom
Birchville Cat Motel - Beautiful Speck Triumph (disc 1)

+
Maudlin of the Well - Leaving Your Body Map -- put off hearing these since I thought Kayo Dot was pretty lame, but wow this is pretty neat

It's cool. Old-school, rock'n'roll style proto-black metal.
