London Meet 4!! (Feb 23rd to 25th + extra days)

Post by Icarus »

Soooooooo... to quote LUN in the Meet 3 thread:
LUNardei wrote:I was talking with Plasmo yesterday about coming to london as soon as possible! He's free from uni from half february til the end of march, and that's ok for me too. I have to ask to the other italians if this can be good, but I guess it is :D
Is it ok for you too DEL?
Looks like we might have interest for another meet down in London for around mid-Feb to end-March. Easter-ish sounds like a great time to set one up. If we can finalise a date fairly quickly we can all sort out travel, money and accomodation (and in my case, finally getting a frickin' weekend off to actually attend this time) and have a pretty awesome smeet.

namakoteam should definitely get together and have a little mini-tourney on various games I reckon. ^_-
  • Date for the main meet:
    Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th February '07.

Add a few days before and after if you want to do other stuff, too.

We'll have to discuss the time to meet up a little closer to the meet date. It'll be important to arrange a set time for everyone to get together, just so that there's no possibility that someone will turn up at the wrong place or time.

For an idea of playing and meetup times, check this post by DEL. (Subject to change before the actual dates.)
  • Attendance List:
    CONFIRMED ATTENDEES (20 listed):
    > namakoteam-UK / Team Mills <
    - Icarus, Smraedis, DEL, mulletgeezer, elbarto, Mills, Masamune

    > AEX Team Italy <
    - LUN, BR1, Kati-sama, Neverland, fontaz

    > Team Cowboy <
    - Plasmo

    > Others <
    - Kaede, Herr Schatten, rjpageuk, ill6, Hinatafan, KrgFn, Dr_Ian
    UNCONFIRMED (3 listed):
    - bpe, neorichieb1971, CVM
  • Accomodation:
Most of us will probably be able to fix up somewhere to stay in the city, either with friends or with relatives. Those without those available options can book accomodation with DEL's friend, who owns a Central London hotel. Quoting DEL from the Meet 3 thread:
To make a booking please complete and return the booking form below or book online at our web site: www.barryhouse.co.uk

    Barry House Hotel
12, Sussex Place, Hyde Park London W2 2TP UK
    Tel: +44 20 7723 7340 Fax: +44 20 7723 9775
    Email: hotel@barryhouse.co.uk
    Web: www.barryhouse.co.uk

Here's the London hotel info you need. You can ask for Bhupinder Singh Bhasin and mention the name DEL when you guys book. I'll ask him to give you a good deal.
If you need more information on booking at this location, ask DEL.
  • Travel, Transport and Directions:
Anyone got a map or two with directions to particular meeting places (like the Casino) for the non-London visitors? If you have, let me know and I'll add them to this post. (Printable maps preferred. ^_-)

As for travel/transport, most of the key locations will be reachable by Underground or bus. If you need to travel a lot, make sure you get a travelcard on your first day there (weekly card is recommended), as you can use it on the bus, Underground and overground trains.
  • Contacts
When the time comes and the day(s) of the meet are upon us, I'll start up a thread at namakoHQ for meet attendees to leave contact details like mobile numbers. It'll make it easier to keep in touch during the weekend, just in case we need to let everyone know that we'll be late, or where to find the group and so on.
Anyone interested?

Meet IV

Post by DEL »

I'll do my best to get things ready for you guys.
Like I've mentioned before, Casino arcade only has two good vert cabs at the moment, currently housing Ketsui and Mush. There are another two vert cabs with almost playable screens, but I'll need to bug Bob the engineer to get the sticks and buttons up-to-scratch. These two cabs can be used to house games of our choice for the Meet. I will contact ill6 and see what we can do.
Ibara, Cyvern, Pink Sweets, Ibara Black Label are some of the options.
The Trocadero arcade still has Raiden III and Strikers 1945, where The Old Mills will no doubt display a 2mil+ 2 loop ALL.

European visitors, please note that Meet IV should be viewed as a vacation and not just a shooter meet. Sightseeing etc..should definitely be on the menu  .
Replay recordings can be done with camcorders (I bought a new tripod recently).

I'd be happy to come, though I'm not a big fan of the current game selection :P

Though it'd be fun to have a namako meet up.

I should be up for it, though I'll be going on holiday for a couple of weeks during that period, if we can get a date agreed fairly soon I should be able to work something out so there's no clash. It's a real shame there's only 2 good cabs - I guess Pink Sweets would be a good choice for most of us if it can be obtained, and maybe Ketsui or good old Batrider would be a popular choice for the other?

I was down Casino tonight. Masamune and I still came to the conclusion that there are no more than 4 playable vert cabs in the arcade at the moment.

^Glad to hear that you might make it down!
Don't worry about the game selection, I was only throwing ideas in the air.
What games do you think we should put in?

This is going to be a great meet ^___^
Mushi and Ketsui are just my favourite games, so I'm already happy about that ;)
The only other thing I'd like to see would be some dodonpaching from BR1, but he's not sure yet that he'll be there...

Regarding the date:
We'll make that a tentative date, since its quite a bit away at the moment, giving everyone some time to prepare. Don't make any plans for the meet yet, fellas, not until our overseas friends can confirm that they can make it over at around that date, and we have a more concrete time.

Regarding games:
I'm happy with anything (but will suck badly at Ketsui, Dodonpachi or anything else Cave besides Ibara for that matter ^_^;; ). I can bring down stuff if requested, including XEXEX, Brave Blade and Batrider-A. If all goes well, I might also have Garegga back in my collection before then (which'll probably make Plasmo quite happy). I doubt I'll get Pink Sweets yet though, as its still quite expensive at the moment, and my budget doesn't allow me to drop $1k on a board right now. ;_;

Regarding accomodation:
I can hole up at my sister's over the weekend, so I'm covered. Those travelling from other parts of the UK and from overseas might want to make extra arrangements regarding funding for accomodation. I think those who have been across for the previous meets will already be clued up with regards to accomodation and prices, but you might want to do a bit of research just in case.

Glad you like it. Feel free to use it. ^_-
Had some time to sort out my PC from the last hardware failure, and found the old source material for the sig on my main data drive.

Sure. Anyway, we all need to book the flight, so it's better to have a precise date as soon as possible. So... Let's discuss! ;)

I wouldn't mind whatever is chosen really, I think you know by now that I'm not a fan of many shooters  but still play them anyway.

Do/DonPachi would be nice, and so would Batrider, maybe we should choose the games that we do like, and have something new too?

Don't worry, I'm a bit picky too.

Batrider is a good idea for replay recordings.
I will only put a Do/Donpachi in if BR1 turns up.
As for a new title, I'm sure someone like ill6 will have something for the Meet  .
ill6 already has an Ibara board, and its always worth watching Plasmo play it,.....if he can make it  .

25-26th Feb weekend seems ok for me.

Until i find out why Strikers1945 at london trocadero minuses points from my highscore immediately after destroying the final star boss, my score will never register more than 1.7 million....could just be a problem with the board. as for the london meet, im in. who knows, maybe we will see some new shumps titles after the ATEI 2007 Show at london Earls Court in late january. myself or Del will have to come up with some plan to get the trocadero management to invest in some titles, assuming we see any at the show.

Speaking of the Troc, didn't they have Border Down a while back?

Yes, Thank God. I still owe you for doing that!!
The Troc board still has my 170mil on it, probably gathering dust in some stock room. I owe you Mr elbarto, not least for making the trip, but for the fact that my next nearest 6D ALL was only 159mil on the Dreamcast port.

Mills - I've registered for the ATEI show, so I'll see you there. But before that, I wanna get you hooked up with a Supergun and a board or two.
Plus, make sure you get hold of that 2.3mil Strikers replay, then text me and I'll join you down the Troc.
I wouldn't worry too much about that score drop glitch at the 2-ALL just yet. We can still take pics just before & after that point anyway.

Is no one in with the Troc management enough to persuade them to put Border Down back in around the time of the meet? I'd be something else to play besides Cave/Raizing, of course.

You've got a point there about offering something different besides Cave/Raizing. But the Trocadero is a bit of a Hell-hole. There are a couple of friendly Chinese engineers who used to watch me play Border Down, although I asked them a while ago as to the whereabouts of the BD board and even they didn't know :? .
Border Down could be installed into one of the many decent Horizontal cabs in Casino. Again, ill6 has it. The London Fighter players are jealously guarding every Hori cab in Goodge St though!

That is indeed a journey! & I'm sure you'll have an Advance ALL ready by that time  .

No one can get in there anyway. It took me and a friend 15 minutes to work out how to get into the main arcade section from the Underground, the escalator system is so convoluted. ( ̄▽ ̄)
