Quite new to Shmups scene.....some help needed

Post by PPA »

Hello everybody!

Im 21 years old and i've always been fascinated by shumps!

I discovered them with Ikaruga on the DreamCast....but i'm not so experienced...

I would like to know how the scoring system works and where i can get info/guides on how to maximize my score in various game i usually play...

Lets say i play these games just for the excitement that dodging the bullets gives me, i dont have particular strategie...but now i want to become a better player and i need your help!

These are thegames i'm looking forward for info on the scoring system and how to score..

Ibara
doDonPachi/doDonPachi dai Ou jou
Mushihimesama
R-Type final
Psyvariar
Ikaruga

These so far are my favourite shooters and would like to know more about them!

Thanks guys!!

You might want to try the trading section.

...and beware: People can get offended when they think someone's not paying attention to the forum categories. Take some time to look them over, hopefully it won't be too difficult to figure out which posts go where.

Don't worry about it. There are a few people here who have a low tolerance of new folk, but most members are pretty friendly.

Have fun!

@mulletgeezer - I'm on the look out for a PS2 saturn pad as well if bullet doesn't want it.

Welcome to the forums, Bullet. :)

After you have read a bit in the strategy section you can start to submit here: Hi Scores

And don't get discouraged by the scores of some madmen.
The process of getting better is the fun, not showing off with your results. (That can be the fun after you enjoyed the first process.)

Welcome!

I also started with Ikaruga :)

If you're not able to make heads or tails of what's written in the strategy section (honestly sometimes I can't), read it again and keep it in your mind while you head over to www.super-play.co.uk and download some gameplay videos. The combination of seeing the theory in writing and in action will help you understand what's going on.

Greetings, welcome to the forum from a long time reader ( + intermittant poster... )

The list of games you like is similar to my own - may I recommend you try and get hold of ESPGaluda? Have a look for some vids to see it in action - I find it to be really superb. Was one of my first purchases since getting into shmups and I know quite a number of board members alsoo hold it in high regard.

Shoot the core!

Yeah, welcome and enjoy your stay.

Personally I started my shmup addiction with ABA Games but Ikaruga was my first commercial shmup purchased. Followed by Chaos Field and Radirgy. I think I got 2 out of three right.
