Super Strike Gunner Vs. Battle Bakraid

Post by Xuse »

Hey all,

Back in the day I used to play Super Strike Gunner for SNES and absolutely loved it. I was on the SHMUPS site and checking the Battle Bakraid review when I noticed something. The screenshots for Battle Bakraid showing the first few levels seemed very similar to Super Strike Gunner. Not only do the first few levels seem similar but the bosses do as well.

Has anyone noticed this as well? I'd love to play Battle Bakraid especially if it is similar to Super Strike Gunner.

Anyone able to confirm this?

bakraid is nothing like STG.

STG is mediocre at best, bakraid is brilliant!, these two games are truly worlds apart.
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

I wanna know something. Why does the graphic style between Daioh and Strike Gunner look so familiar?

And SG STG isn't all that mediocre, atleast the SNES version of it. I will atest to the arcade ver being the worst game ever made though.
I think if someone were to rebuild the game up to the higher standards of players these days, maybe I wouldn't have to hear such crap about my favorite 2-player game.

That's because SSG and Daioh have the same core staff

and Battle Bakraid's graphic style was awfully generic what with having a staff of six people
so long and tanks for all the spacefish
unban shw
<Megalixir> now that i know garegga is faggot central i can disregard it entirely

That's what I figured, but I never tried to confirm it. thanks though. that explains why Daioh is so much fun.

Both games have been developed by Athena - who are also responsible for the design-your-own-shmup Dezaemon series (the Super Famicom version also has a Daioh game included)

Later on, they did Shienryu and Sengeki Striker, under company name Warashi.

Sengeki Striker is brilliant - the gameplay has a unique survive-until-the-next-special-weapon-discharge aspect;
the screen floods really easily with enemies and bullets and it gets really tense hanging on until the satellites are ready to fire...

Especially after the brilliant Batrider. Sea stage, desert stage, water stage, cloud stage... not really revolutionary.

I love Bakraids graphics, IMO the best raizing have ever done. So crisp and clear unlike batrider and garegga.

And it has awesome looking bosses in the cloud stage.

Mmmh, maybe it´s MAMEs fault, but Bakraid looks washed out to me, but it does have clearly visible bullets, which is a plus. The boss rush in the cloud stage is fantastic indeed, and the music is great, too. Very epic, and fits the game. Although I like Namiki in Garegga and Batrider more... but well, while it´s not my favourite one, it still a great game in the "Bat..." trilogy. Most insance suiciding gameplay ever.
