Naming issue I want to work out.

Post by Gungriffon Geona »

I'm wondering on something... has there ever been a game called "Gankaizer" before? or anything called such for that matter?
another thing, if not, does it possibly mean something in another language? don't want to choose something that means "gopher munchkin" or something otherwise retarded.
Finally, would it make an overall good name for something?

I ask for what is probably an obvious reason, but specifics remain undisclosed at the moment. Hush hush, if you will. :P

Dunno if this helps, but there's already a game called Gowkaizer.

hmm, similiar stuff, but not so similiar that it's a bad to use it. Though that leaves the question of whether it's a good name or not. (to be honest, this is a name I been thinking on using for my project. though it's a bit iffy because it's not exactly a normal name. me and my bizarre imagination.)

Kaizer, if you pronnounce it english sounds like Kaiser which means emperor. If Gowkaizer is a japanese game I would bet that kaizer refers to this german word. They have it with the use of german words.

that part was intentional actually. something about a false god and stuff like that is planned for the story. as for "Gan"... think of it as a play on gun. matter of fact, I kinda wanted to do a bizarre name in the vein of Raizing, though I feel like I only got it half-way.

I googled it and nothing came up, so you're probably safe. It's a pretty generic sounding title for a shmup, though. Japanese developers seem to love throwing random scraps of German into their titles, and just about every variant of "gun" has been used in a shmup title several times.

On the whole, the use of original words in titles is a bad habit to get into because it leaves zero impression out of context. A better move would be to think of the most interesting and unique element of your product, then formulate an evocative metaphor for it. Failing that, go for something less descriptive that creates a strong mental image.

Makes sense then. perhaps "Beat Fighters Gankaizer" works? I do want to keep Gankaizer though, it sounds fairly interesting in my opinion. ("Beat Fighter" means something especially important to a mechanic I've been writing out. In my opinion it's something that hasn't been done in ANY shmup, so I'm hiding it from everyone except the team for now.)

Man, that sounds terrible. Get a real name, one that doesn't insult the intelligence (and from this "false god" talk, maybe rethink that storyline too).

Think of it this way: the real god was torn in half, and while he is trying to re-assemble himself, someone decides to try and create a false power to merge themself with, therefore a false god. (though in the end the real god bitch-slaps the fake and annihilates him.) A "Gankaizer" by what I want to say.
And I've said more than enough about the story, lest I COMPLETELY ruin it.

As for the name, what would you call it? gimme something that I can use that doesn't sound completely moronic.

Gankaizer as the name of a god sounds fine to me. I like the story but of course it sounds strange if you tell it this short

Beat Fighters Gankaizer does sound like a good name- it's not terrible IMO especially if the "Beat Fighters" part ties in with the play mechanic. I'd stick with it.

This name nicely reminds me a bit of Armed Police Batrider (another cool title) for some reason.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I was actually going for that kinda thing with the name. It's not the worst name I've come up with atleast. ("Robots Anonymous" comes to mind. But I was young and retarded when I made that.)
And yes, "Beat Fighters" means alot about a major play mechanic, but it's something only my coder and second artist have been given full knowledge of. (maybe I'm paranoid, but I've seen people have their ideas plagarised before they had the chance to finish it themselves.)
