Capcom Classics Collection Vol 2 is out

Post by OneEyedJack »

For rehash - Varth is a Vert scrolling shooter

1941
Avengers
Black Tiger
Block Block
Captain Commando
Eco Fighters
Knights of the Round
King of Dragons
Last Duel
Mega Twins
Magic Sword
Quiz and Dragons
Side Arms
The Speed Rambler
Street Fighter I
Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Strider
Three Wonders
Tiger Road
Varth

That is an arcade accurate Super Turbo - suitable for tournaments, with a versus and training mode.

Really good collection, a lot of care went into making it. It is worth your cash.

Where? EB/Gamestop isn't even having it shipped until tomorrow, and the few other stores around here never get it until after they do (unless it's a big name title).

That explains why I couldn't find it when I called around today, but EB and Gamestop told me they both got sold out. Their knowledge of what games they get apparently show they pay no mind to less niche titles and only worry about the big games.

The quality selection of titles on this compilation is what makes me eagerly anticipate a third volume. For me, there's only 3 "meh" titles on the list.

I must ask how is the crispness of the original graphics have then been blurred or stretched?
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Did they offer tate option for the vertical shmups, as they did in the PSP version? If not, then I'm not so sure it's worth much as far as shmups go.

One of my friends at EBgames told me yesterday that they were supposed to have it in, but nothing came for some reason. He hoped to have it within a week.

Like Pixel asked, is there a filter and can you turn it off because the smoothing causes eye-cancer?

It's supposed to have progressive scan, so it should look nice, at least. I know Sega Genesis Collection and the Sega Ages games that have it look outstanding.

I've yet to see it available for myself, but some are reporting finding it at Best Buy today.

Definitely a must -buy regardless.

I'm a bit confused... what means Vol. 2? I thought there was like "capcom classics collection" and "capcom classics collection reloaded"... and eco fighters, knights of the round and some more of the games already were on the latter...

And for which system is this?

Reloaded is for PSP, Capcom Classics Collection 2 is for PS2 and Xbox.

Yay, Eco Fighters port.
None of the stores in my town have got this game, guess I'll check next Tuesday or something. If all else fails, amazon.

Guess what guys? EB/Gamestop says the game's not shipping until November 21st now. And yet, some have been saying Walmart and Best Buy have gotten small amounts of this game (like, 2-5 copies of it).

Makes me wonder what the hell's going on with this game.

I will be looking for this over the weekend, and if it doesn't turn up, I'll order it off amazon. This is becoming more and more common for me with poor distribution of niche itesms (books, dvds, games). Its a pitty the stores cant be bothered to carry everything.

As far as the pack having tate. I really doubt it. The first one did not despite having numerous tate-able games. Part of the reason I am still holding on to my capcom generation discs!

I'm very excited to finally see magic sword and black tiger out. Also, I am under the impression this is the arcade version of strider which is exciting. Very very few have really picked up on the fact that the strider game in the PSX strider hiryu pack was a sort of remix that actually fucked up some of the original workings of the game, so I am hoping we have a true arcade port this time.

I am still wondering where Battle Circuit is however and if we will get to see a capcom classics 3 with some of their later period games, not just the early stuff!

I ordered mine (along with the Sega Genesis retro pack) from http://www.videogamesplus.ca/ and got a notification that they shipped yesterday.

Lack of tate won't bother me, I didn't have any problems playing the tate-able games in the first collection nor in the Taito Memories packs.

SIDE ARMS! WOO!

All I know is every single EB/BestBuy/FutureShop/Wal-Mart around here has at least 2 to 4 copies each for 24.99. :P

The best buy near my house had it, but never bothered to put it up on the shelves. This month's been retro compilation heaven, I tell ya, with the Capcom and Genesis collections.

One damn annoying thing with the Capcom Classics is that pressing any button during the continue screen automatically gives you a credit. GRRR!

I tried a few more places tonight, including a false alarm for Target (the guy thought I said Sega Collection O_O) but all I seem to find is CCC 1. Guess I'll try again on the 21st.

Just got this tonight, BB had it. Weird to get it in on a Saturday, maybe a freak accident occurred with the shipment or something cool like that.

Anyways, I can confirm -- No tate :(

The real gems are the ones that aren't shmups, anyways, so I'm not too bothered; woot, SSFIIT and CapCommando ftw.

Bleh, screw this compilation. Pure laziness by the developers.

Not laziness. Its back to that whole issue about americans slipping and having their tv crush them while they are flipping it.

anyway, except for Varth which is rather meh anyway, all those other verts are playable in tate on the capcom generation discs.

I second the motion.
Now I can sit back and wait until CCC3 (potentially) where they had bloody well release Alien VS. Predator, or something newer than 1993 for christ's sake.

I'll never understand why people are so vehement about this TATE thing, and have a "gotta have it full screen to be worth a damn" attitude when it comes to shmups.

The fact I was looking forward to this compliation to play 1941 in TATE I feel is valid. I'm not saying it's worthless but since any other game offered on there I'm not interested in or already have a decent home port of gives now little reason for purchase. I may still get it one day anyway since 1941 with a controller is a nice incentive.

Got the collection.

The verts, are not full screen stretched. They retain their original dimensions.
There are two types of screen choices - original with the score display intact. And "modified" in which all score info is removed from the playfield and put to the side.

I like the modified display.

-----------------------

Eco Fighters is a pretty game.
Super Turbo looks awesome.
It is a really fun collection.
I recommend.

I never said it wasn't a valid desire, but swearing off a game or a compilation because it doesn't have a TATE mode "does not compute" in my brain. For me, that's like not buying a game because it doesn't have an arranged soundtrack, or a "Remix" mode like Hyper Duel and Border Down have. Sure, it's a nice perk, but I've personally never seen TATE as a must-have option that would be the deciding factor as to whether or not I buy a game.
