FrederikJurk wrote:@shiftace, maybe you could write a small overview of Radio Zonde in the review section - I remember being mildly interested in it, but the mass of options was too much for me.
I've thought about that before, but I still feel that I might not understand the game or the shmups genre well enough to do a good review. Struggling through STGT has helped though, and I might write one in the future. In the meantime, there's a GD thread with some basic info.

What was so complex about it? Did you lose track of the power meter? The game seemed simple, on the whole.
i must second that, even if the game has less buttons than radiant silvergun (which i found absolutelly not complicated) i never managed to control chaos field like it should be to have a smooth gameplay. it has a very uncomfortable feel to it.

It does feel kind of odd at first, but it's really not quite as bad as it seems once you get used to it, sort of like the Cave games I referred to earlier: lots of stuff going on, but really only one or two key things (mainly, in this case, keeping the chain going) to remember overall, and the rest falls into place.

For me Chaos Field never felt complex, it just felt awkward. The huge ship, the semi-responsive controls, etc. The weapons were easy to get a grasp at, even though the little boy's ship was by far the easiest to learn to use properly.

Chaos Field requires you to master two seperate versions of each boss's patterns. You have to keep track of your power meter, the boss's life, all the bullets on the screen, and the time limit on the boss (if you want to maximize score). Not only that, but there are two different attacks and two different ways to absord the bullets. Plus, each of the three characters plays remarkably different. The game has quite a learning curve.

semi-responsive? it controls like butter.
the ship is big but the hitbox is small and easy to see (it has a different color).
it does feel a bit awkward at the beginning though i have to admit.

for what it's worth i enjoyed it more than rajirugi.

as for most complicated i don't know maybe garegga or batrider. the mushi 1 autofire epic is ridiculous

The ship to hitbox size ratio really threw me for a loop after I played Ikaruga.

I'm still witholding my opinion for Radirgy as of yet. I need to lay it more and get a better feel for it.
