Batsugun PCB vs Batsugun SE Saturn
Gents,
Although I'm familiar with the differences between Batsugun standard and SE, I just wondered if I could ask for some views as to what this means in practice. I have the offer a standard Batsugun PCB for $175 and a $60 Saturn port which contains both Standard and SE versions.
Obviously I'd prefer to play the title on my Egret, but if SE is a million times better, there's little point in forking out for the extra....
What are your views?
Cheers

Well it's got original and special editions, two soundtracks and, as I'm told, less slowdown.
Feedback will set you free.

In my opinion, Batsugun Special Version is really a million times better than the original PCB Version. Its a classic though.
If I were in your situation, I would buy both. Not just that you have a complete Batsugun collection then, you also bought both a classic toaplan shooter and a maniac cave-like shoot em up.
The new stuff in SE is:
- 4 Loops instead of 1
- easier (you can get hit once before you die, which is much less frustrating think)
- more places to score with tricks
- absolutely great sound though the classic versions OST is pretty good as well
- more pigs^^
SE > PCB
Its a great game anyway.

Hi!
The PCB Batsugun Special (which i have on loan) is better than the Saturn Port.
But, its a trade off, because you can't have the board run both Normal and Special. You have to choose. Then settle with your choice.
All things considered.....I think you would be better off with the Saturn port.
I would insist on the board (for my purposes), but that's another matter.

That's just the point. I welcome slowdown.had no slowdown

Original Batsugun PCB can be upgraded to SE ver.
The Batsugun PCB can be upgraded to Special Version via EPROM chip dump...would be wise to have two Batsugun PCBs: one original & the other, Special version on a Japanese arcade cabinet setup...Halloween Jack wrote:Thanks for this information fellas - must admit it sounds as though SE offers a vastly improved game playing experience, and as I can't find an SE board, I'll probably go with the Saturn version.

Of course, that would only pertain to bona-fide original "Taoplan" produced Batsugun PCBs and not bootlegged versions of it floating there...I've got a "bootleg" Batsugun PCB myself but it needs to re-burned EPROM-wise to get it to working 100% again. ^_~

Re: !
You could also keep a seperate set of EPROMs and swap them when you chooseDEL wrote:Hi!

Hobbyroms.com will burn a Batsugun eprom for you for $10 shipped. Now you'd have both on PCB (just swap roms).Halloween Jack wrote:Thanks for this information fellas - must admit it sounds as though SE offers a vastly improved game playing experience, and as I can't find an SE board, I'll probably go with the Saturn version

Although, not spoken much (at all?) of, it should be no harder than any of the others (DC, PS2, etc.). It has native RGB out and you can easily hack the controllers for your joys/buttons.Ceph wrote:Crazy idea of the day: Build an adapter and connect your Saturn to your cab.

Sounds a plan Dave_K, thanks. Well, I'm still getting a lot of gameplay out of my original Batsugun PCB, so no hurry for me. However, an SE upgrade for a fiver is an attractive prospect to say the leastDave_K. wrote:Hobbyroms.com will burn a Batsugun eprom for you for $10 shipped. there's a big difference
I play on cabs when I'm over a friend's place
at home it's the consoles
I'm not knocking the consoles, I'm just saying if you have the option of playing it on cab . . .

anyway, like I said, I'm not knocking the consoles, but if the cab option is there, I'd go for it 100% of the time. I'm about to play some Ibara on my PS2 right now.

Just thought I'd throw this out there, you can actually piggyback the eproms and have a switch to flip back and forth between the regular and special versions of the PCB - I had mine done by a member a few years back and even though I don't play the regular version much, it is nice to have both on the same board.
