The result is water that makes you alert & perhaps clear. Mills says it works. It may be just the thing to take before you begin a run on a Manic or similar game.
I myself am interested on anything and everything over-the-counter and in the supermarkets that can keep up focus, dexterity, wrists from deteriorating, all that good stuff. You may also spin this off into pill or munchies that can work against carpal tunnel, arthritis development, etc.

Mills, the request is optional of course, but would you please like to report your findings thus far? :)



Also, anybody wants to shout a blurb on exercises they partake in in-belief that they do better, that's cool too.

One more thing. It might help. Try not to branch this thread full-on into hard drugs. It's been done.

shmupping broke me of my Redbull habit...I used to drink Redbulls and Mt. Dew to study and when i'd break away for a game, i'd be all jittery and would loose my coordination. If and when I do play, I try to be as calm and cool as I can. Playing when you're stressed out or upset is not good, this genre would only piss you off more. Playing in between study sessions helps as well.

Well, the other day Mills texted me saying that he might try some amphetamines to play ULTRA and up his Strikers 1945 into the 2mil range :shock: :shock: :!:

So, sorry to disappoint, Mills did consider branching out into hard drugs :lol: :lol: :lol: .

Seriously, I need Coca Cola when I play shmups. I guess I am addicted to it, but I can't play without it. After a while I will lose my concentration if don't have some caffeine. Coffee also works offcourse...

My experiences with weed and the video game. That never helped. I'd laugh a little more, I'd game-over a little faster, and I'd get all bent outta shape in a record time. Not worth it.

A few beers never really hurt anything. It probably doesn't help it either. But it may balance things out depending if I'm in some overactive or "real-life was annoying today" bit. Or if you need to set back in your chair a little deeper, tune-out a little more, or run your brain on auto-pilot a little better.

In-short, sven rocks.

potassium helps prevent cramping of musle tissue.. this is particualrly beneficial for endurance.

Caffeine's all I can take. Coke made me think my heart was going to explode, and I'm sure meth would be even worse.

Some of the hard core foam fighters would puff on alupent before tourneys.

Heh. I just read the thread about the drugs. The first page anyway. Funny stuff.

I could never drink or have caffeine before I played some shmups seriously. First off, the former option isn't legally available to me yet, and second, playing these games half-tipsy seems frusterating. I don't take frusteration well. I can't drink soda because I run alot. Drinking soda saps your body of calcium (or so I'm told. It could be propaganda). It also gums up my system and gives me abdominal cramps. That's from not drinking it as often as most people. I can't drink coffee because I have a $100 bet with my mom that I will never like coffee or get on an addiction to it.

In order to be in the best shape for heavy concentration I simply drink water, fill my stomach, be healthy, and relax.

Multi-vitamins might help. Getting enough beta-carrotine keeps your eyesight good. Overdosing on it will do nothing but give you vitamin poisoning though.

I do hand stretches sometimes if my hands start to bother me. Just type in hand stretches in google to check a few of them out.

Another thing that might be helpful is to do exercises with a stress ball to increase hand strength. If you joints in your hands are inflamed you can at least build up the muscle. I guess that’s what my physical therapist was trying to tell me anyway.

I don't know if doing those things actually helped me though. Limiting my amount of video game playtime and typing seems to be the most effective method. Taking Aleve sparingly (which is pretty much over the counter Naproxen from what I understand) is helpful to me. I've read that it might be bad for the heart though. Maybe even take Ginkgo Biloba and Omega-3 as vitamins to take to help improve your game. They are supposed to help increase blood flow to the brain. Feed that gray matter!

I think using a comfy controller like the Saturn controller or well worn Dual Shock can help also.

Ah well, that’s the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Maybe one day I can get bionicaly enhanced hands. That would be completely badass! :lol:

And of course we all know drinking beer does a body good. :wink:

This business about water clustering (and the sales-heavy presentation) got me irritated enough to do a little research. It turns out that water really does some curious things on the molecular scale; but it seems that nobody's made a convincing demonstration that these can be manipulated to affect health in any way. The Wikipedia Pentawater page indicates that it's a scam and that the company has been ordered to stop trading in the UK. From other reading, it looks like most (all) of the claims for it can be explained by the more ordinary processing steps, namely purification and oxygenation. And, if not by those, then by confirmation bias and the placebo effect.

For myself, I haven't noticed any skill effects of caffeine or alcohol; but I tend to avoid video games when I'm drunk.

I remember seeing kids popping ritalin before Counter Strike Tourneys at the internet cafe's, that would probably help for a little while. But it's totally lame if you ask me.

When I went off ritalin, it took forever just to be able to read a book again. Not fun, not worth it.

Beer would help you first get relaxed and untensed, but you'd then need caffeine to realign the focus.

I shmup the best early in the morning since that's where all my energy is, and I'm in no way tensed up. That way I don't need to take anything. But everyone has a different biological clock. So the key would first be too find out when you have the most energy in the day, and to go from there.

but never forget, the REAL shmuppers keep it sXe!

Same with me. I perform by best earlier in the day because I have less on my mind and it feels like I'm starting fresh. When I play in the afternoon after school I just get frusterated easier because my day normally goes downhill after 10 AM.

At the evening class we get to do shit like 1500+ situps and whatever other heinous shit that Mamazinho can dream up to torture us with, move right along to technique and then spar again for another hour or two. I stay sober for dinner and then commence to bonghits and hanging out with my lovely Ethiopian ladyfriend. I smoke less when I'm with her simply because she's not a stoner. If she's busy I rip down mass bonghits and either go to a rock and roll show, nurse my wounds, watch fights or play videogames. I let that wear off before going to bed because why waste THC on sleep? That's every day except Sunday. On Sunday I smoke weed and don't do shit. Pathetic, I know. It oughtta be a crime.

I have this weird thing about playing shmups at 1 A.M. (I'm an insomniac at times). I tend to do better then.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

Man, this has got to be one of the funniest threads I've read in a while. Absolutely hillarious. You guys really know people who looked into drugs to enhance their shooting? It seems like a joke, but people do strange things...

For me, it depends on the season; for Winter I drink hot tea, and during Summer it's Gatorade (or Aquarius in Japan). The sports drinks keep me going even though they don't have any caffeine. I guess it's the sugar. I also find it soothing to play shooters after taking down a good, heavy meal.

happiness; when i'm feeling happy or excited about something it yields me such a bunch of energy and a feeling of awakeness which is wonderful for my shooting skills.

starvation; when the uncomfortableness of hunger has just disappeared and your (/my) body goes into huntermode the everything is sharper, brighter and i'm very focussed

music; my game inproves when i turn down the volume of the tv and put on a monochromic and fast sounding album. don't know why exactly but i usually find ingame music very distracting. eventhough i can totally love the music and buy the OST of it, i just can't play with it.

Good point. Cutting off the sound helps me too. When the sound is off, I have the impression I see things on screen more clearly. Weird stuff.
