Just a thought.
You got some sauce for that? The "companies migrating" thing at least.
I found the article about SNK, but I'm still searching for Sega's.
According to the interview on Advanced Media Network, SNK Playmore has no plans to release any further titles on the Xbox, and feels 2D games are not suitable for the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Sherman also confirms that Sony of America rejected a number of 2D projects from the company for the PlayStation 2 because they did not correspond to the company’s graphical standards, as well as limiting the number of releases that featured two retro titles in one package.
Hmmm, interesting. Especially them considering AES stuff on the Virtual Console. Might be a problem with conflicts in their commercial releases however.
SCEA always shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to old-style games development, so it's not really surprising to see SNK-P do a move over. As for other companies, there are ways around the anti-2D thing (such as developing a 3D game with 2D orientation a-la Gradius 5).

Not really. RTF retailed for $20 ($19.95 too expensive) while Gradius V retailed $30-$35 for purely corporate politics reasons.

That's SNK, they haven't branched off in their history at all, including what they do with their games. I think they honestly should just learn to get with the times and make something that's decent and 3D. (Maximum Impact and MS 3D not withstanding.) no offense, but they recycle even more in their lifespan than Treasure and Raizing combined. (and they actually do/did better jobs than SNK will ever do, they never completely rehashed a game 17 times over.)
The article about Sega is in Edge Magazine. Edge hasn't published the article on the web, but there are references to it all over the place. Here's one of them.
A: I think Sony shot themselves in the foot… there is a high probability [they] will fail. The price point is probably unsustainable. For years and years Sony has been a very difficult company to deal with from a developer standpoint. They could get away with their arrogance and capriciousness because they had an installed base. They have also historically had horrible software tools. You compare that to the Xbox 360 with really great authoring tools [and] additional revenue streams from Xbox live… a first party developer would be an idiot to develop for Sony first and not the 360. People don’t buy hardware, they buy software.
Q: But what about Sony’s success with the PlayStation and PS2? They sold more than 100 million of each system.
A: It wasn’t anything brilliant that they did. With the PS and PS2 it was timing. They had the right pricing at the right time [and were] almost the accidental winner. It would not surprise me if a year from now they’ll be struggling to sell 1 million units. [Factoring in the PS3’s price], I think in the U.S. the number of early adopters you have is actually around 300,000.
But anyway, I'm hoping that they're just moving GVI to another platform.
