Raiden Fighters Jet AVI super-play! (Raiden mk-II near 1CC)

Post by EddyMRA »

http://www.rf-emporium.net/rfjet/RFJ_Ph ... _mk-II.avi

155MB AVI file, DivX encoded.
Level Progression: 01-05-15-30-45-P1-P2

Notable bonus combos:
Level 01: 3-tank, 100,000x7 Fairy combo
Level 05: 100,000x5 Fairies from the moving crane
Level 15: Quick Shot all the medium planes leading up to a 100,000x9 Fairy
Level 30: Almost x9 comboed the entire level, and got 100,000x6 Quick Shot on the large Bomb-Carrying plane.
Level 45: Largest combo in the super-play: Quick Shot all the medium planes, got two 100,000x9 Micluses and one 100,000x9 Fairy from the submarine for more than 5 million points (including a ton of 100K medals)

I was forced to bombfest through Phase 1 (those freaking striker planes) and I lost all my lives in Phase 2 (way too much going on...too many huge tanks). I would have fought the true final boss if I had survived the Phase 2 super-tank boss.

I'll try to study the boss attack patterns more, and hopefuly I can make a 1cc AVI video of RFJet sometime soon. The Raiden mk-II is an awesome ship. 'Bout time I gave it the respect it had in Raiden II!

Place the INP file into your INP folder in the MAME folder. I really hope you downloaded a version of MAME with a GUI, as well as the Raiden Fighters Jet Japanese ROM (rfjetj.zip). If you have these two requirements, go to File>Playback Input File, and select the INP replay from the open dialog box. The game will load and the replay should start.

Wow Alluro, thanks very much. That was incredible. The dodging at the end of 45 and Phase 2 was especially impressive.

While on the subject of RFJ (sort of)...any chance of convincing you to put any of the normal planes (i.e. the ones that can't have both L and M simultaneously) in Xeno Fighters EX? I remember suggesting Griffin some time ago (mostly because its weapon styles were apparently the most distinct from what was already offered). Well, that and Scimitar from Varth (smart shields, wide shot with associated bomb, napalm).

Yeah, I remember you suggesting this in the older forums. I was looking to using the Flying Ray as a choice. And, just for you, Skyknight: http://forum.shmups.com/forum/viewtopic ... 0888#20888 <-- My own names for the RF1 and RF2 music tracks from the Raiden Fighters Onslaught package.

Thanks cigs. RF Jet is far more difficult than RF1 in the sense that there are waaaaayyyy too many stray bullets flying about. The bullets become hard to see camouflaged in the explosions, and the ship hitbox is also quite big. It will be quite a while before I can produce a 1cc replay of RF Jet, especially with the ship I use, the Raiden mk-II. RF Jet seems catered to those who play as the Ixion, Slave, or the Judge Spear.

Where have I seen the name for the RF1 boss theme before...?

As to RFJ...I've cooked up names for at least the two boss themes...

Normal boss: "Test of Might" (which is basically what it IS for all save the last two areas, when you're not in the simulator anymore)
Final boss: "The Last Grains" (as in an hourglass)

Once I get back to the Somerville arcade (hopefully early morning when it'll be somewhat quiet), I'll look into the stages.
