Hey Edge, you break your keyboard yet? :P8)

I want to win this week..can ya tell?

Rob - Feka USA - 11,129,208 - 6 - Shishin - 15'297

My heart went :( when I lost the chain (completely) at the beginning of stage 5. I don't know how to score the points.

I'd say this game needs either keyboard or a decent joystick. Using the auto with a d-pad is probably quite hard work, that auto button needs to be held 90% of the time.

I'm getting pretty good at this.

Current best chain - 16,107, second half of stage4. Fumbled the run in stage5, though, finished with 13.65mil. ;_;
Getting closer... just need to fix problem areas at the end of stage4.

? Dangun Feveron is by Cave... I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to get at.

I said that anyway because it's very simple to learn, and you can always get a quick play in whenever.

Also - Nice job everyone, keep on improving! :D

I'm still stuck around 4 million for the end of stage 3. I guess I need to shape those up.

BulletMagnet - Team Loser - 2,969,516 - Gensuke - 4259

Had a good no-hit run going for the first two stages, and then somehow lost my chain right before the health item...I have no clue how I did it, I was blasting stuff the whole time. I swear, there are forces beyond my comprehension out there to prevent me from getting anywhere at this...

Yup, it's impossible to score well with a pad that's why I'm getting ramrodded. You can't hold the controller effectively while also manipulating the A and C buttons. This is about the only game I wish I had a arcade stick for.

I've been using a Saturn-style joypad since the start of the tournament with no problems.

The famously excellent Playstation d-pad for me.

It's so stupid it's funny when I get hit by the last bullet before a +2000 coin bonus.

This is what I'm using and due to the shot buttons being pre-mapped to A and C, I find either playing is extremely uncomfortable or the delay makes me lose potential points. So how are you holding the controller?

A (Shot) mapped to B
B (Bomb) mapped to Y
C (Auto) mapped to the R Shoulder

Same control setup I've used for every game since whenever.

I see, that would be the ideal configuration, unfortunately I don't have that advantage due to the buttons being pre-mapped on my supergun.

As any game, all thumbs. Maybe the problem here is rapidfire? I'm not quite sure what the differences might be in button pressing. One button is set to shot (rapid), one activates the spirit, another bombs. Shot/spirit are square and x, so I can switch between them easily.

My favorite thing about the PS controller: shoulder buttons! Full throttle (to skip nonsense)! That's my favorite button to accidentally push.

Hack and resolder?
I need to do that with an old Saturn joypad soon. -_-;;

(I'd be playing on the PCB myself, but I have no controller worth using at the moment.)

The problem is on a Saturn pad you can't manipulate A to C at the same time, you have to actually lift your thumb and place it or else you would be hitting bomb constantly with B.

I don't want to use it as an excuse, it's my own fault, and if I had thought enough ahead I could have maybe done something but generally this button lay-out presents no issues with games. So oh well too late now.

This game is horrid. Worst game of the competition by a long shot. Your score depends on maintaining a chain through the entire game? That's my nightmare. The game feels like I'm playing bound in chains. I don't want to let go of the button because the bullets will get me. But I have to let go to reposition my bitch-on-a-chain. And I'll be damned if I can get my chain to come back to me. I also can't seem to get into the setup screen to enable auto for the 3rd button - not sure why.

But seriously, I **hate** this game. This might be the first rom I ever delete in disgust.

My 1st game
Landshark - Super Buffet S.T. - 1.58 million - 2800something - 4 - some beotch

Image

Played 2 more after it and couldn't take anymore. It's like working, but I'm not getting paid. I'd rather play Starforce for 24 hours straight.

Ugh. Yuck. My hands feel dirty. At least it's pleasing on the eyes and the level 3 boss makes cool noises. I think I'm gonna go eat some glass instead.

For some reason, I can see you scrubbing the insides of your PC screaming, "OUT DAMNED ROM!".

Aside from the divine Batrider, I think Guwange is one of the best games of the competition. It is acquired taste however, and admittedly, quite difficult to get into for a one week competition. (One of the main reasons we selected it. ^_-)

Could be worse though. Could be playing Dragon Blaze again. -_-;;

Your lack of participation this week will please my team members though. One less player in the top ten. And we kind of suspected that you'd suck at a chaining-based Cave game. ^_-

It didn't used to bother me much before, but I really can't stand how much slowdown is in the game, and how you have to deal with constant transitions between slow-mode and real-mode. Either shitty game design or shitty programming (probably both). Anyway,

DarkWolf7 - Feka USA - 3,782,547 - 5 - Gensuke - 6,193 (MAME)

And to my teammates, amazing work so far! I'm happy that I won't be dragging the team down this week.

Haha. I never tried to hide the fact that I royally suck at chaining. Always have, always will, and I have no will to get better at it. I still just like "blowin' shit up" - so this game doesn't sit well with me.

Oh well. The comp was still fun.

Shame really. This game is probably the easiest of all Cave chaining-based games to play, as well.
