Nice shmup I found

Post by RotateMe »

Dunno if this is the right section but i wanted to share this nice homebrew i just found:

I just did my dayly check on independent gaming news and they had an amazing game featured there:

It's called Demolition Gunner and was deveoped by DHC (I don't really know them for other games but might it be that they made Warmachine Overload?)

Here's the link to the game:
http://www.interq.or.jp/saturn/takuhama/Shooting6.html
and here for the review on indy gamer news "review":
http://indygamer.blogspot.com/2006/10/d ... stroy.html

The game is said to play like UD, which i don't know i never played it, but I can say it features 4 very balanced difficulties many short levels (i got to the sixth) with a boss each. I don't know if there are any advanced scoring systems but the standard stuff but it's much action on the screen and i like the graphics pretty much.

The best score review is captured everytime you play, i don't have anything good yet otherwise i'd post it...

Oohh, by Dark Hell Company, one of my favourites. They/he/she/it has this nice style I like.

Pretty fun game. Didn't spot any "deeper" scoring mechanics, at the end of every stage you're rewarded for the time left on the boss timer, if you have shield left and for those little bonus stars you've collected. Dying resets the latter. After the last stage you're also rewarded for each extra life you have left.

I tried only the normal difficulty and managed to clear it on my very first attempt with only one miss, final score was ~4,5 million.

I was actually reminded of a fairly obscure PCE shmup called Avenger, it looks quite similar. Aside from the speed and the amount of bullets on screen, of course.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Oh no please don't say that.... and I thought I made progress in shmupping when I got to stage 5 on easy mode on my first try. DAMN it will be a hard way to the top :D

Not good to start on easy. Least not in my experience. I'll have to try this out. Thanks.

I can't get the game running it seems. it starts up, opens the dialog for full screen, I click yes or no, then it closes in a split-second. Not sure why this would happen honestly.

No problem I have 1LCd the game on easy and normal mode isn't that far away. I was shocked when the first guy responded he cleared it this fast but after all I'm pretty new to shmups and there might still be some hope.

I DL every freeware shmup i can get but I must say amongst Cyberd and some others this is the best I found so far. A bit short though isn't it?

Seven levels is a pretty good amount but the levels flow so fast and all the boss fights can be cleared under 20sec's. An infinate mode would be good for this game were it just keeps going and going.

Don't get discouraged. :) Best way to get better is to play 'n practice.

I actually prefer short games like this. The action is more condensed and there are no lulls to it. Short levels also mean I get faster to my favourite part of shmups, fighting the bosses.
